What kind of plant should I grow?
I want to grow a plant from seed in my bedroom. I have two windows. I can let the plant sit in the windows when they are open. I want something that I will be able to germinate and maintain despite the fact that I have never done this before and I assume I would be good at killing plants. So, it has to be a pretty basic and easy to grow plant. Something green. A flower is nice but not necessary. And it MUST NOT BE poisonous to cats. Any suggestions?

If you eat avocados and ever see a pit that's started splitting, chances are it's ready to germinate. Put it in a small glass/jar, root end down (where the split is) with toothpicks stuck in the side to prop it up. Fill with enough water to go half way up the pit and check the water every day or 2. If it works, it will continue to split, form roots in the water, and shoot a stem/leaves straight up. Avocado trees can eventually get very big and like some direct sun, but if you keep it in a smallish pot, it will stunt it's growth and you may be able to keep it in the window or smaller space.
You know how potatoes grow "eyes", the bumps that grow out of it? You can take a sweet potato that's getting older and cut it in half so it will lay flat in a dish with water.. it grows VINES!
