Why don't they do drop kicks in the NFL anymore?

I was watching the 1974 version of the Longest Yard and at one point in the game Paul Crew's team does a drop kick which looks like a combination of a field goal and a punt and is worth 3 points.

I have been watching football for 15 years and I have never seen one.

Did the NFL ban this play or did teams just stop doing them and if so why?

When an extra point or a field goal is so much easier and more reliable, the question is why do a drop kick? Doug Flutie did one in the early 2000's, that's the most recent one I can think of. Just like the Fair Catch Free Kick, no one really does it due to better tactics nowadays.

Still legal. One of the oldest rules in the game. I've seen a few, and a few more failed attempts.

If you drop kick you could get a weird bounce, plus with a place holder you could probably boot it farther.

    Still a legal play

it is very rarely done anymore
