If your puppy is being fed a "good quality" puppy food it does not need supplements.
All the vitamins a pup needs should be in its regular food.
Over feeding of some vitamins can be dangerous.
Is there some reason your vet advised feeding supplements?
If your puppy is in good health then I would be inclined to follow the breeders advice.

More info is needed.
Because it depends what else you are feeding.
If the diet is inadequate - it may need supplements.
It depends entirely upon what you are feeding and what your vets reasons are.
Its seems strange that a vet would suggest this without reason, if the pup appeared healthy.
My breeder does not really feed supplements, however if needed they suggest feeding extra calcium in the form of digestible bone, such as extra chicken frames while the pup is still growing.
As for vitamins - my breeder suggests feeding regimented amounts of raw offal such as liver and kidneys which are PACKED with a HUGE range of vitamins when uncooked.
Most vets don't approve of a raw diet.
Mine is fine with it - because my dogs scream good health.
So he has never mentioned to me to feed anything else, even though he knows my dogs are on a raw diet.

You listen to your breeder. Calcium and extra vitamins will cause growth problems especially with large breeds. If the pup is healthy, eating a good quality food then it is not necessary to add extras. Vet's mean well but the breeder best knows their breed. Some vet's seem to lump all breeds in the same box when in fact large and giant breeds are very different from medium and small breeds.

I think I'd listen to the breeder on this. They know their dogs. Too much calcium can cause rapid bone growth, which can cause joint problems. Here's some more info: http://www.newmanveterinary.com/large.html

Don't believe what some people say. Give your dog multivitamins. I have a friend whos a vet and she HIGHLY recommends it. If you give him all the nutrients and vitamins he will grow and grow! My family are Registered Nurses and Im an EMT/Bodybuilder we believe vitamins help us humans as well so it will work for dog/puppy.
