How does the book 1984 fit our Government/ Economic standards ?

the book was written long before 1984 as a kind of prediction of what could happened. as it turns out, Orwell missed the mark by a long ways. but when it was written it gave people pause and a heightened concern for the potential direction the government might take. if you try and apply it to today, it makes even less sense, but it does serve as a classic example of provocative civil discourse.
