OMG bentley and audi are managed by completely different people. audi doesn't stick its nose in Bentley's affairs and neither does bentley.
BMW on the other hand, hasn't done much to update their 7 series. if you are looking for the pinnacle of luxury, look at the new Mercedes S Class. it recently got updated with a whole bunch of new features that Bentley nor Rolls Royce can match.
on the exterior, the car has long, medium and short range sonar all around the car. this is used to monitor the environment to keep the driver safe. for example, if driving up to an intersection the system recognizes a car on the perpendicular road going too fast in a collision course, the system will activate the brakes, pull you into your seat and prepare for an accident should the braking not be enough to stop it. the car can also stop you from merging into a vehicle in your blind spot by activating the opposite side rear brake to keep you from turning (there are also interior alarms to stop you).
now along with the safety also comes convenience. the s class also has a pair of forward looking cameras that will scan the road surface and prepare the suspension for any imperfections. the system will recognize a 3 mm bump at speeds of up to 130 kph. (little less than 1/8 of an inch at 80 mph)
check out this video that shows the difference between having this and not having this.
keep in mind that these cars even without magic body control are still extremely comfortable which makes the system that much more impressive.
on the interior the new S class still impresses. the seats have a huge massage range that can be chose to either invigorate you on your way to work, or relax you on your way home. the air conditioning is also equipped with various scents that are designed to dissipate quickly and not stick to clothes. you will never have to experience driving around something smelly ever again. the s class also comes with a world first, full LED lights all around the car. there is no conventional light bulb anywhere on the car. inside the cabin, this means a range of colors available to light up the cabin. at night, you can light up the cabin in red to maintain your eyes' natural night vision while still letting you see things inside with ease.
Audi, BMW, Bentley or even Rolls Royce don't match this level of features.
if you look at sales of full sized luxury sedans, Mercedes has been winning for a long time now for good reason. according to an article on Forbes.com in 2013 Mercedes, BMW and Audi sold the following for each of their full sized luxury sedans.
Mercedes-Benz S Class : 6,211
BMW 7-Series: 5,075
Audi A8: 3,099
in the same article it states that Lexus sold 5,247 of their LS and Porsche sold 2,532 Panameras.
the sales don't lie. Mercedes still kicks butt in the luxury game. Audi has great AWD systems and wonderfully efficient engines and BMW has amazingly sporty chassis and suspension setups but Mercedes does luxury better than anyone.
