When is the latest time that Senior Citizens should drink caffeinated coffee & still be able to sleep that night?
Does switching to decaf seem to help? How about caffeinated tea or things like chocolate that have caffeine in them?
Also, do you think that coffee or other caffeine contributes to high blood pressure?

It does depend on how a person reacts to caffeine. I can drink caffeine any time and still fall asleep with no problem--I have a problem with acid in coffee. So for me, I can drink coffee up until the time I brush my teeth and I'll still be able to go to sleep but may have trouble with acid reflux. Or rather, I'd have to have been drinking whole lot of very very strong coffee almost all day (with little food) for it to start affecting my sleep, I have done that and then I do get too jittery to settle down to sleep. I don't think caffeine contributes to hypertension per se. My brother doesn't drink coffee or tea or caffeine soft drinks but he's got hypertension. I think some of us just get hypertension and caffeine may not help any (but it still doesn't seem to affect me, I switched off of coffee and now drink very weak tea or just water and my hypertension hasn't changed any).

I think it's an individual thing. I don't have a problem with caffeine so if I wanted coffee in the evening i would drink it. I try not to drink anything past 7:00 p.m., though, because then I have to get up in the night to go to the bathroom.
Yes, I think too much caffeine contributes to high blood pressure.

Caffeine really affects me and even drinking it in the morning seems to make sleep difficult. I drink decaf at home and that doesn't bother me at all. Caffeine also affects the rhythm of my heart so anything with caffeine isn't good for me anyway. I've had to learn to just leave it out of my life. I remember a waitress telling me that she pours what she has in her hand. I can usually tell when someone overdoses me on caffeine. I'm also diabetic and Ive had people give me regular sodas with little care for my health. I always have to ask to be sure I'm not getting sugar. Regular sodas really hike up my glucose and it's dangerous when someone is so thoughtless.

Coffee doesn't keep me awake. I can drink it with my evening meal, and go to sleep quickly. My late wife was a nurse. She seemed to have an infinite resistance to caffeine. At age 74, she would brew a cup of coffee, strong enough to dissolve a spoon, gulp it down, and go to sleep in minutes. Drink as much as you want, whenever you want. We don't have to live by schedules any more!

Caffeine does not keep all human beings awake. It is a stimulant but we all react differently to different things which we put into our bodies. For those who DO find that it affects them I'd suggest not having anything at all, containing caffeine later than 3 hours before retiring. That way it is very likely to have passed through the system before bed 'calls'.
