How to safely cross the street? How could this happen?

I like to cross the street to go to the gas station and little store, just walking down my street instead of driving the car. I wait until there are no cars coming from either direction, or any of the side streets. Coming back across the street there were 3 vehicles parked across the street. No one was coming from any direction. As I got to the last lane and almost between the two front vehicles the truck that had tinted windows that was the last one parked pulls out and tries to hit me. I had no way of knowing anyone was in the truck, or that it had been started. I feel like I made a mistake. I have decided never to walk to the store again. How can someone pull out, not see the pedestrian crossing the street, and then when your in front of their vehicle screaming at them not even put on the brakes? I did get the plate number and called the police, but I doubt there is any law that was broken, except careless driving.

use a designated crosswalk, look both ways, if you can't see anything due to blocking view such as a parked car or w.e.then simply slowly walk out into the crosswalk and peep out not too much before someone hits your head clean off your body, if no one is their then walk. if their are cars wait for them to wave you off and make sure you keep contact with them so they know.

rest is all basic common sense if you are in the crosswalk crossing you have the right of way not the cars. if their is heavy traffic on a 2 way lane just wait for your blind spots to clear up so that you can cross safely otherwise you will get hit and always look both ways even if the sign is lit up to cross.

if this guy didn't stop and intentionally tried to run you over you probably would have died or gotten injured from a hit and run accident. not all drivers are sane many are impatient or just need their license revoked. i wouldn't even suggest walking to the store at night it is very dangerous especially if your a female or alone.

    Christine rides again!

Although there's probably a more natural explanation - idiocy.
