How would I know if my dog is constipated?

I haven't seen him go in 2 days, but he's not displaying any signs of discomfort, nor have I seen him try to go unsuccessfully.

It is quite possible that I am over reacting and have missed his going, as we have 3 acres of land; however, I usually see fresh poops and haven't noticed any for 2 days.

What sort of signs would he display if he was constipated?

7 month old, 13 lb mini schnauzer.

Update:

It is possible that I just haven't seen him go - like I said, I'm likely just over reacting, just thought maybe I'd notice symptoms.

I really hope he hasn't eaten it! I never thought of that!

If you are worried that he is constipated, there are pet supplements with pumpkin in them to help them go, and you can add a little wet food to his diet if you like. Natural Choice makes fish and potato wet and dry food in the light purple bag which is great for sensitivity as well as skin and coat. Fruitables makes the canned pumpkin dog supplements... maybe your dog has found a new place to poop? ^_^

Take him out on a leash so you can watch him for a day. No outside time unsupervised until you either see him go, or he doesnt at all. If he doesnt, take him to the vet.

Observation only - Most dogs seem to do their business three times daily. Hope he hasn't turned into one of those dogs with an insatiable appetite that eat anything, and I mean anything.
