Why do so many Americans believe in the rapture (Dispensationalism) if it was started about 1830?

In my experience, it's mostly Baptists who believe it. Is it mostly a Baptist thing? Do most Baptists believe in the rapture?

Evangelicals like your Southern Baptists tend to follow a liberal theology rather than the traditional theology of Christianity. In fact calling themselves Conservative Christians is misleading because they are anything but Conservative when it comes to their theology.

The Catholic Church formulated the Nicene Creed from Scripture and the Catholic Church teaches against the Rapture.

    I believe in the rapture.

And while I was raised Lutheran, I migrated to a Baptist Church sometime in my twenties.

I do not know anything about the 1830's since I did not live back then. And at that time, my ancestors would have still been in Norway. I can't tell you what they knew or didn't know. But I do know they did not have the Internet. So, they had no way to "Google it."

I do not think it is that unusual for biblical knowledge to increase as the centuries go by, and that does not make it invalid.

You must realize that back in Old Testament days, it was all a mystery. There was this mystery that everyone was trying to unfold. We do not see it that way because the mystery of Jesus has been revealed. All all through the early church, their knowledge has increased.

Even now, there are aspects of biblical prophesy that remain a mystery. And when the time is right, God will reveal more truths.

I know that. Rapture is a term that refers to pulling the mind

out of the body with Rainbow-Fire through

the crown-chakra and experiencing Oneness with god.

    You enter a higher-dimensional reality, where time/space

are suspended and some people freeze,

or cry uncontrollably. I have experienced this myself.

Raptures occur in Initiate and Wizard-level. All humans

on Earth must master 12 Flames of the Holy Spirit

in order to rise from the dead and become Immortal.

It wasn't started in the 1830's. You'll find references to it in the Apostle's and Nicene creeds. You'll find references to it in the works of John Wesley, and he was just referencing earlier teachings.

Darby in the 1830's merely coined the use of the TERM "Rapture". The CONCEPT was there all along.

There are at least two passages that appear to me to clearly teach the concept of the rapture. Certainly, the WORD "rapture" does not appear in Scripture any more than the word "Trinity". But that doesn't mean that the concept isn't taught.

The two passages below seem to obviously refer to The Rapture of The Church. Now, I can see how, if one does not research the full counsel of God's Word, one could interpret these passages to refer to either pre-trib or post-trib rapture. But they both seem to clearly speak of the event.

So what is the rationale for saying that Scripture does not mention the concept of The Rapture at all? I'm curious to know.

1 Corinthians 15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory?

Where, O death, is your sting?"

1 Thessalonians 4:13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Moreover, both the Nicene and Apostle's creeds mention the concept, though not the word:

The Nicene Creed states, in part, " ... I look forward to the resurrection of the dead,"

The Apostles Creed states, in part, "I believe in .... the resurrection of the body ... ".

Both creeds are far older than the 1800's.

And most Churches believe in the Rapture in some form even if they claim not to.

  • Some famous Christians in the past who brought up the Rapture of the church are: Hugh Latimer from the 1500's one of the Oxford Martyrs “It may come in my days, old as I am, or in my children’s days, the saints shall be taken up to meet Christ in the air and so shall come down with him again.” He was burned at the stake for his faith in 1555.

Joseph Mede A great 16th century scholar, expert in Greek, Latin, Syric and other languages. Significant scholar who among other things wrote about the catching up of the saints and even used the word Rapture almost 250 years before McDonald, Irving and Darby.

St. Victorinus bishop of Pettau in A.D. 270 wrote a commentary on Revelation and referenced the taking up of the church.

Ephraem the Syrian who lived in AD 306 to 374, His hymns and homilies are used in the Greek Orthodox and Middle Eastern Nestorian Chruches singing of the rapture.

    SINCE 51 A.D.

The event commonly referred to, in English and Latin, as "the Rapture" has been read in churches since about 51 A.D. Paul wrote about God physically coming for His people. 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 describes this as well as some other scriptures.

THE LAST TRUMPET (OF THE LORD, THE TRUMPET OF GOD) SOUNDED IN EXODUS 19 WHEN MOSES AND AARON WENT UP THE MOUNTAIN TO MEET THE LORD. WE WILL GO UP TO MEET THE LORD AS WELL WHEN IT SOUNDS AGAIN.

Concerning the Rapture, God, The Creator will make a personal appearance and be in charge of it. The Rapture will be a noisy event. A shout from the archangel and the trumpet of the Lord will blast two times. At the first blast of the trumpet of God, the dead in Christ will rise. At the last blast of The Lord's Trumpet (The Final Trump), both the dead and living will meet the Lord in the air. God (Jesus) makes a personal appearance in the air to get His Church. God will supernaturally rearrange the elements and give the dead in Christ new bodies and those that are living as well. The Dead in Christ will rise first. This also may be a noisy event if they are to shout as well. (I would). This event is clearly described in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 in the Bible. Additionally, this trumpet is not given to angels as in the book of Revelation. This event is not a trumpet out of the book of Revelation.

THE "RAPTURE" TERM COMES FROM A COINING OF THE 4th CENTURY TRANSLATION OF 1st Thessalonians 4

deinde nos qui vivimus qui relinquimur simul RAPIEMUR c um illis in nubibus obviam Domino in aera et sic semper c um Domino erimus

"For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven with commandment and with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God: and the dead who are in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet Christ, into the air: and so shall we be always with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort ye one another with these words."

ALL BIBLE SIGNS AND NEWS REPORT TELL US TRIBULATION IS VERY NEAR. WORLD ELITE PLAN TO INSTITUTE WORLD GOVERNMENT AND MARKING SOON

Before taking the 666 mark, becomes a life or death, hell or heaven event, the rapture will have already occurred. Based on what's happening in the world and world leaders planning to mark of the entire population by 2017, the start of the tribulation is likely very soon. They could miss "their date" but they are saying they will do this very soon. They also have plans to split the world into 10 economic regions very soon, just like the Bible says will occur about the time of the Anti-Christ reign.

    THE CONTRACT

God is 3 personages, Jesus is God Himself; God the Son, & took on humanity, coming as a man to save us. Satan orchestrated a contract with sin with Adam in the Garden of Eden. Since that time, sin passes through man, therefore, Jesus was born of a virgin in order to save us of our sins & get us out of the contract. God worked out legal grounds, through Abraham, in order to save us & pour the sins of humanity on to Jesus on the Cross. Roughly 2000 years after Abraham was asked to kill / sacrifice his son, God sent His Son, on the same spot, to die for us. A man (Adam) put us in sin, a man (Jesus) gets us out of the contract Legally however, you'll have to accept it, for a pardon is not valid unless you accept it. make the right decision. If you choose to reject God, it's not God's will but your will that will be done.

    HOW TO BE SAVED:

Jesus is God Himself, Jehovah, YHWH, The Creator, fully Deity & fully man. He provides eternal life with Him in heaven for all that believe on Him. Acts 16 and Romans 10:9-13 explains how to be saved.

Source(s): The great Bible teacher, J. Vernon McGee talked a lot about this subject. Download the book of Revelation as well as 1st Thessalonians from WWW_TTB_ORG his podcasts are free and also on the radio.

These scriptures clearly show, not everyone is going to Heaven. So there cannot be such a thing as a (rapture) when all good or righteous people leave earth and go to heaven.

Psalms 37:9 "For evildoers themselves will be cut off,

But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth."

    Psalms 37:10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;

And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.

11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,

And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Psalms 37:22  29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth,

And they will reside forever upon it.

Psalms 37:22 For those being blessed by him will themselves possess the earth,

But those upon whom evil is called by him will be cut off.

I am Baptist but certalnly not dispensational. The Bible teaches there will be a rapture of believers at the end of the world when the last trumpet shall sound.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

There is no accounting for stupidity.

When you are considering widespread cases of foolish beliefs, such as The Rapture/Armageddon/etc.. it helps to remember that one-half of the population have I.Q's under 100, and are below average in intelligence.

These people account for most of the believers in these crazed end-of-the-world predictions.

Some brighter folks just get swept up in the emotionalism of it and join them.
