why is it called gender studies AND womens studies?

it's sexist. gender studies is inclusive of womens studies obviously. I think we can all agree that calling it gender studies and womens studies and mans studies is silly. this seems like another case of pandering to women. it's got to the point now where it's not politically correct to correct a woman, even if she's clearly wrong or labelled a yahoo answers subsection in an idiotic way.

Women's studies is a left over term from the time when women were much more discriminated against. While discrimination still happens at an unacceptable rate, women have come a long way. Switching to the term gender studies is more appropriate now considering that more and more men's right issues are coming up (like genital mutilation and education rights)

Its likely that Y! just hasn't fully switched over to the newer terminology, perhaps you should suggest it to them to remove the women's study tag.

Are you referring to name of university courses? Or do you mean the Yahoo! Answers section names?

Universities started courses called "Women's Studies" because Feminist™ political idealogical insisted that all other courses of study were inherently masculine and too many of them were non-Marxist. They wanted to be able to promote their ideology as if it were an academic pursuit, similar to sociology except without the scientific rigour (which they claimed, like mathematics, was too "masculine").

Later they added "Gender Studies" because it became too obvious that their courses were mostly about Feminism™.

Later still, the courses were renamed to just ""Gender Studies" so as to be seen as gender-neutral and non-sexist.

women studies leaves men as a residue to politics for feminists only on cost of us men but gender study includes as the name includes a mutual consideration of men and women in society.

The original designation of "Women's Studies" was more accurate but makes the bias very obvious. "Gender and Women's Studies" or "Gender Studies" isn't less biased, it just makes the agenda a bit less obvious.
