Midges in Scotland?
I visited Scotland with my husband last week to visit brother and family for the first time since they moved there earlier in year.
Its a nice place to visit however what put me off are the insects called midges that bite you. Has anyone else had that problem while they have been there. Does anyone live there and has experience living with this? I really like to visit Scotland as I havent done for a long time.
But the midges have put me off. Its mostly in May and summer months they appear dont they???

Ah the dreaded Scottish Midge - buy some of Avons 'Skin So Soft' dry oil spray next time you visit - its actually better than any of the named brands of repellent on the market - works a treat.

When the midges appear, the deer go up on the hills and stay there till the evening when the midges ease ff. You should do the same as the deer.
Midges are never around in April, usually appear late May-early June depending on what the weather's been like. Ease off again in September. Choose the date you go to Scotland accordingly.

Midges are mosquito like insects.
They have always been here and are everywhere in Scotland.
Why? Because we have the perfect climate for them, their favourite spots are near water, especially still or stagnant pools of water.
They're usually at their most annoying from spring to summer.
If they bother you just buy some midge repellent, there's plenty to choose from.
