how to naturally dread your hair if you need to wear a bandana?

I am familiar with dreading hair naturally. However as a welder, I wear a bandana for at least 10 hours a day. I have to in order to prevent my hair catching fire. How bad will this hinder the process? Should i just avoid the natural method and do them another way?

  • If you wear your hair inside a wool tam instead of a bandana it will dread fine, even better in most cases. A tam will allow your hair to still move freely to knot and lock up. Check out www.dreadlockssite.com for more info on happy healthy dreads.

Source(s): I have freeform dreads, just a few twist and rip ones.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes the 10 hour bandana rocking lifestyle will alter but not so much hinder your pursuit of the natural dread lock. the rest of your hair will dread up as planned but you will have an awkward ring/cap on the rest of your hair. Dread lock formation is not a part time commitment unfortunately, rather it is a lifestyle choice and I have known many a dread aspiring individual who wasn't willing to give it the commitment it takes only to end up with nappy dirty hair. You could consider using vacation time to concentrate on forming your dreads with bees wax which is commonly used as a base, then twist the hair of desired thickness like joints and continue palm rolling. This is very important from the start and the rolling will be very important as maintenance when things come unwound with washing or fuse together with wear and during sleep. The formative period of the dread is the most important, and once they take root the rest is maintenance and cleaning.
