Boyfriend is about to be promoted to sgt and i'm a spc, question about policy regarding this issue?

long story short my boyfriend is about to be promoted to sgt next month, we're in the same unit but not the same company. i was reading army reg. 600-20 regarding this issue and i could see how our relationship could violate the regs. Ive been dating him for 1 1/2 years almost everyone knows we're dating so i'm not to sure how this will effect us in the long run. So my question is do you know any soldiers in a similar situation, how was it handled by your company or unit if they were still together. Any insight or advice on what to do.He did ask to marry him but i wanted to wait until i ets which is next year.

Update:

or is this best thing to just break it off, i'm not sure if we some how got past the reg b/c were different companies, i just don't want to risk his promotion in any way

Update 2:

theres a reason we're not getting married before his promotion

The only issue is if he will be in your chain of command. If not then there shouldn't be any issues.

My 2nd wife and I married when she was an E-3 and I was an E-5. We worked in different AFSC/MOS and in different squadrons, so the issue never came up.

    b. Relationships between Soldiers of different rank are prohibited if they—

    (1) Compromise, or appear to compromise, the integrity of supervisory authority or the chain of command.

If he is not your supervisor, then there's no issue. However, you want to make sure to notify your your CO to avoid any appearance that you are trying to hide anything.
