First time ever flying and tips for Spirit Airlines?

So I'm very excited to be flying for the first time, but I'm also a bit clueless. I'm flying from Ft. Lauderdale to Tampa for work. It's a one way trip because I'll be driving back with a friend and I'll only be gone about 4 days. Anyway, I really don't know how to check in or any of that. I know not to bring anything that could be considered a weapon but some websites said that I can bring a disposable razor as long as it has a safety cover, also what happens with my earrings and bracelets? I know I should arrive early but how do I check in and all that. I bought the bare fare so I can bring a free carry on and I guess I want to know how to avoid any extra charges that spirit is notorious for. The flight is only an hour so I'm not concerned with food or entertainment, I'm planning to bring an empty water bottle to fill after I go through security and maybe a book. And if there are any items that I shouldn't bring that I might not think about let me know. I'm really just looking for tips for the flight any advice would be appreciated.

You do not get a free carry-on bag. You get a free personal item, and you need to make sure that it fits the dimensions stated on the Spirit website. If you will need a carry-on bag, or a checked bag, it is cheaper to pay for that when you check in online than it is at the airport.

In addition, you need to make sure you check in online and print your boarding pass at home. Spirit charges $10 for a boarding pass at the airport.

If you won't be getting anything to drink on board, then you won't have to worry about other fees.

Most airports are using body scanners instead of metal detectors, so the jewelry isn't an issue. But when I do still go through metal detectors, I usually have on a bracelet, a necklace, 2 pairs of earrings, and 3 rings. I've never set off the metal detector, so I think you'd be fine.

Your razor is fine - only straight razors (like a barber would use) are prohibited.

You should arrive about 2 hours before your flight is scheduled to leave. That will give you time to check a bag (if needed), get through security, and find your gate. Then you can get yourself something to eat or drink, and just hang out until flight time.

The bare fare does NOT allow a free carry on, you can see from the following link the fees for a carry on, different depending on if it's paid before check in, during online check in, and paid at airport check in. The only free bag you can bring is the personal item, something no bigger than a large purse and which should be placed underneath the seat.

You can either check in online 24 hours before departure, and print out the boarding pass(es) if you want. There are many signs and directions both inside and outside the airport buildings, you will be able to locate Spirit Airlines easily, and the gate number. There are also monitors that you can check the exact departure time.

To find out the rules and prohibited items by TSA:

You could leave your earrings and bracelets on, usually it's okay. But occasionally you might be asked to step aside and be given and a hand wand scan or even a pat down. No need to worry about this, if you have nothing to hide. The fastest way is to remove all metals from you, and your shoes and overlayered clothing before going through airport security detectors.

I don't know about fees, but I do know that ANY regular safety razor is OK. It does not have to be a disposable one. It can be one that takes the disposable cartridges. It does <<not>> have to have any cover on it, either. Millions of people fly with that kind of razor in carry on bags every day.

No one will care about that at all.

Many airports are using body image scanners instead of metal detectors, so the jewelry wont' make any difference if that is the case.

For a metal detector, I would take off the bracelets, but don't worry about the earrings. Almost everyone walks through with some kind of metal - eyeglass frames, buttons, zippers, wedding rings, piercings and so on.
