Many fundamentalist Christians are like the hypocrites who hate paying taxes of any kind.

They attack science, whenever they notice that it is at odds with their crazy notions such as creation, but they rely upon science, when it is to their advantage. They'll gladly have an M.R.I. when they are ill, or accept medication for a chronic condition.

The tax averse are much the same in that they are furious, when they see their taxes being spent on *others*, but they are very quick to take advantage of any service that the various levels of government provides, which is of personal benefit to them.

Well-off, older Tea Party people are the first in line for their Medicare payments, but have no use for Medicaid being made available to the poor.

Hypocrisy? You are damned right it is!

There is no principle or command in the Bible that says that doctors are not to be used by Christ's followers. If such were the case, then Luke would have been counted as a staunch opposer of science over Jehovah for being a physician. However, apostle Paul speaks of him in high regard. (Col.4:14) The Bible does prohibit the use of blood however, which would include in the medical sense as well. (Ac.15:28 & 29)

Some Bible verses state that God is the only person to heal you:

    Exodus 15:26

And He said, "If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer."

While others say seeing a doctor is okay:

    2 Chronicles 16:12-13

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians. So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign.

Any person with any sense will seek medical attention.

You have a false presupposition that faith in God and science are polar opposites and mutually exclusive.

    They are not.

God gave doctors and nurses knowledge of the body and the ability to learn about the body. That is not in conflict with the Christian faith at all.

First of all, God made science possible. Secondly, it's God's will that sick people visit a doctor. If there was no available medication, God would heal those who pray with a sincere heart.

    Ezekiel 47:12

And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.

If you read this verse from Ezekiel you see that "leaves" are for medicine. i.e. herbal medicine was acceptable even in the Old Testament.

Penicillin is basically mold that grew on fruit - that was found to have an anti-biotic effect on the human body. Still based in nature - science has advanced and developed; if medicine was permitted in the Old Testament - why would it be prohibited in the New Testament?

When God gave Adam the assignment to subdue the earth, he did not provide a service manual. He did give Adam a brain and the knowledge of how the environment works. With his brain and whatever tools he would need to construct the assignment could have been done. In fact it just could have been the first of many projects set before mankind. We are built to do, to work, to solve problems, to overcome adversity. Not to sit on our duff and watch the grass grow.

Jesus healed people, but in the absence of Jesus, we can thank God for doctors. After all, they ensure we do not arrive too early for our appointment with our Maker.

Sadly, we sophisticated people in the West seem to have forgotten that God provided us with many herbs that can heal us when we are sick. We have largely lost that ancient knowledge of medicinal properties in plants. The Bible speaks in symbolic language of a future time when the Tree of Life will have its leaves used for the healing of the nations. God is into healing and wholeness. So are many doctors. In fact, do you know any doctor who is NOT concerned to help heal and restore? Sounds like they are on God's wave length to me.

By the way, it is absurd nonsense to try to make faith sound as if it is opposition to science. Have you really no idea how many scientific discoveries were made by people who had faith in God?

    Sirach 38

1 Honour the physician for the need thou hast of him: for the most High hath created him.

2 For all healing is from God, and he shall receive gifts of the king.

3 The skill of the physician shall lift up his head, and in the sight of great men he shall be praised.

4 The most High hath created medicines out of the earth, and a wise man will not abhor them.

5 Was not bitter water made sweet with wood?

6 The virtue of these things is come to the knowledge of men, and the meet High hath given knowledge to men, that he may be honoured in his wonders.

7 By these he shall cure and shall allay their pains, and of these the apothecary shall make sweet confections, and shall make up ointments of health, and of his works there shall be no end.

8 For the peace of God is over all the face of the earth.

9 My son, in thy sickness neglect not thyself, but pray to the Lord, and he shall heal thee.

10 Turn away from sin and order thy hands aright, and cleanse thy heart from all offence.

11 Give a sweet savour, and a memorial of fine flour, and make a fat offering, and then give place to the physician.

12 For the Lord created him: and let him not depart from thee, for his works are necessary.

13 For there is a time when thou must fall into their hands:

14 And they shall beseech the Lord, that he would prosper what they give for ease and remedy, for their conversation.

15 He that sinneth in the sight of his Maker, shall fall into the hands of the physician.

Christians generally don't reject science- but they do reject nonsense - that you don't know the difference is more a testiment to your own stupidity than anything else.
