why prostitution is illegal?

Why would it be illegal?

out of moral ethics? - then why cheating on your partner is legal?

financial? - government would raise a good tax off prostitution, right now it's being done illegally any ways but government does not get the tax paid.

Why paying for Psychiatric services is legal, where they don't offer any actual help like otherwise people get from Surgeons and Dentists?

What's different with prostitution and Psychiatric analyst? people pay for service, for help, to relief stress just like they pay to Psychological analytic.

A prude worldview. For the vast majority of Americans.

Prostitution is not ALWAYS illegal in all countries, and in fact is legal in parts of Nevada.

The truth is, where it is permitted and regulated, there is demonstrably less crime against prostitutes, and lower venereal disease transmission rates. See most of Europe. Very few Euro nations make it illegal. A few actually regulate it and make it relatively safe.

There is not a federal law that outlaws prostitution except on federal land. All other bans are the acts of the city, county or state where it is banned. For example, Nevada does not a law against prostitution but Clarke county does.

The why behind the law is as varied as the jurisdiction that has the law.

It's illegal because: 1) It is viewed by many as immoral; and 2) It was (and still is), a means of spreading venereal diseases, some of which have no cure.

I've always thought it should be legal. If it were regulated, it would be safer for the sex workers and the people that pay for their services.
