Is it OKAY to refill the water bottles/?

you can, my mom does that too, but if you are going to refill then might as well buy a good steel water bottle, since plastic does have chemicals in it and aluminum too, you need glass or steel but you don't want glass in a car, so steel is the way to go

Why not buy a Brita filter for your faucet and buy a reusable water bottle and skip paying through the nose for bottled water? No impact on the environment then and most all bottled water is from your tap anyway, simply filtered and you buy it for big bucks.

Yeah, it's an excellent idea and you don't have to throw away your plastic bottles.
