Next handgun?
So in looking at a couple different choices. Mainly for home defense and winter carry. I have all sorts of summer conceal carry so this one I want to be a full size combat pistol. So reliability is important. I'm a collector so it's not my only handgun. I have Glock, Springfields and rugers. But right now I am eyeballing the Sig P226 in 9mm, HK USP in 9mm or .45ACP but also been wanting a Kimber tactical 1911. Which would you go for and why over the others?

I have many 1911's of all flavors but a para-ord double stack is what I would consider for a 45acp. Probably a p12 lda because I already have the 12+1 SA. You can go 13+1 with the commander or 14+1 with the p14 full size. I think Double Action LDA IS THE WAY.

Me? I'd buy the Kimber, just because I love Kimbers.
The USP would be my absolute last choice for a handgun, along with anything else made by Heckler & Koch. I simply do not like that company due to some of their business choices.
A Sig is an excellent gun, so you'd do well with it, provided it fits your hand.
Ultimately, though... That's what you need to do. Find out what fits your hands. If a gun isn't comfortable to hold, it isn't going to be comfortable for you to practice with. If you don't practice, you may not be able to use the gun well when you need it.
So go down to the gun range, take some of your current guns, and while you're there, rent one or two of the guns that interest you. Compare the rentals to your personal guns. See what is most familiar. That's what I'd suggest.

Definitely the Sig P226. I personally like Kimbers but i've heard a lot of people rag on them.

If you are a collector then the Colt Series 70 1911 would most definitely fill a void in your collection and serve you well for winter carry.

+ 1 on the 226. The Sig 220-229 are on the top shelf alone- IMO.
Want to add a budget gun to your list?.....Look at a Bersa Pro. They make a full size and a compact. Many people laugh at Bersa, but once they shoot one, all they can say is OMG!.
Here is one- 1400 rounds in 11 minutes- They change shooters a few times , and stop to pour water over the gun.

All great choices, but everyone should own at least one 226. Truly the shooters pistol.
