Epididymitis:
Pain in the scrotum generally over several hours or days, pain is usually limited to one testicle, fever, swelling of the testicle, pain while urination.
AT the top and rear of each testicle is a coiled tube called the epididymis, which transports sperm to the vas deferens. Epididymitis is inflammation of this tube. Bacteria can cause epididymitis, but often the cause is unknown..
Your health care provider should take a urine sample and also a sample of prostate gland secretions so he/she can try to identify an infecting organism.
If this is from a bacterica infection antibiotics are prescribed to treat the infection.
Orchitis:
Swelling on one side of the scrotum this is from a bacterial infection or from the mumps virus. This is similar to epididymitis and other conditions that affect the testicles. Also treated with antibiotics..
Testicular torsion:
Sudden severe pain in one testicle, elevation of one testicle in the scrotum, swelling of a testicle, nausea, vomiting, faintness, fevers. Each testicle is suspended in the scrotum on a spermatic cord that contains the vas deferens and blood vessels supplying the testicle .
In a conditation called testicular torsion, the testicle twist on its spermatic cord closing off the blood supply to the testicle.
