Unexplained burning smell?
My girlfriend and I started to smell something burning, kind of like singed hair, it has only happened twice. We have a window Ac above our heads in the bedroom, but when we smell the unit it doesn't smell. No candles or fires are lit. The smell only lasts for 2 seconds and then completely goes away.

I'm just kidding! Try and determine WHEN you smell it. Have you ever smelled it with AC off? Does your lady friend (or you for that matter) have long hair that sheds a bit? Very easy for that to work it's way into the AC and get hot enough to smell.
No more of a smell than you are getting, I wouldn't worry. Wait until you get old like me. Everything smells then, you just ignore them!

The real question is why do you have a window AC above your heads? If someone wanted to break in, that's the first route they would take and that would be a nasty incident if it hits you in the middle of the night with no warning.
