There s/t album is actually a concept album, the album is a story, although I never seen the claim that it is a concept album I do believe so, the songs follow up so well that it couldn't even be coincidence, in my eyes, the song "Jesus" is in my interpretation is a song about a man getting saved, not necessarily about Lou himself, just a narration, like what rnrstar pointed out.

Lou Reed was raised Jewish, though he claimed rock and roll was his religion. "Jesus" doesn't seem like a satire, it actually sounds pretty sincere. It seems like Lou was trying to write a spiritual, gospel-type song. Whether or not Lou Reed believed in Jesus himself isn't the point - the narrator of the song is looking for help and turning to Christ for it. As wild and hedonistic as the Velvet Underground could be, tracks like "Jesus" show the band's softer side. Lou's lyrics never shied away from the dark side of life, so "Jesus" could almost be a plea for redemption - not necessarily from Lou himself, but from the narrator of the song.
