  • What speed to go with no posted speed limit??

Hi, tomorrow I'm taking my driver's license test for the first time at the Gaithersburg MVA in Maryland. I have seen some videos online with people driving the course and I noticed that there are roads that you have to turn on with no speed limit posted at all (or at least for the portion that you have to drive on). I don't know what to do in that situation and it's got me nervous. Speed is my main concern and I don't want to unnecessarily fail by going over the speed limit when I have no way of knowing what it is.

Here's a video of one of the routes for the course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxiIKyfmCpg

Metropolitan Grove Road, Bank St, and Firstfield Road, and I think a few more have no sign saying what the speed limit is. What speed do I go at for these roads??? I'm very confused.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

  • Germanium transistor question?

I'm building a fuzz factory clone and after doing research on which types of transistors to get, I decided on the OC44. I found a group of OC43's that are supposed to be close to the OC44's and they have the hfe and Ic measured out by the seller. The hfes for the group are from 110 to 150 which is what I'm looking for but the collector current is measured at 50 mA to 70mA and I don't know how this will affect the sound of the effect.

So what does the collector current mean for transistors and how will it affect the tone? Thanks!

  • Adding 9v battery to circuit board?

Hi I'm building a fuzz pedal and the PCB has a +9v power component and the wiring diagram shows how to connect a DC jack to it. But I want to use a battery instead of an adapter. I'm new to electronics though I've done a bit of research so far though I haven't been able to find this specific information.

Is it as simple as connecting the positive end to the PCB and sending the negative to ground? Or is there something else I have to do? On the pedals I own I see that the 9v battery leads are connected to the PCB but the particular PCB I'm using doesn't have that. Only a single hole for a +9v, which is shown to connect to a DC jack in the wiring diagram.

So any help on if I can simply connect a battery here or what else I need to do would be great.

    Thank you!

  • Can I use an Electric Guitar directly with a PA System?

Hi! I am going to go street performing soon and will be singing and playing guitar while my brother drums. I play mainly blues rock in the style of The Black Keys and the White Stripes. An electric guitar is essential for my style. I was wondering if I can connect an electric guitar into a PA system (with fuzz/distortion effects pedals between them) and have a good tone suitable for street performance?

I have looked into portable guitar amplifiers but they don't seem to have enough power (especially competing with drums) and it's more cost-effective to use a PA with mic and guitar inputs rather than buy an amp and PA system. I don't need to play clean for anything, so would my distortion pedals be enough to achieve a good tone?

Also, would using an amp modeler pedal help with getting a better tone?

  • Is this a scam or nah?

Hi, so I use OkCupid and a couple days ago I started talking to a girl on there and got her private email address. We planned on meeting up the same day, but she said I needed to fill out "dating arrangements" first. I asked her what that meant and she said that it's a way for her to feel more safe when meeting new people online and that it would contact the authorities if anything happened to her. Perfectly understandable and I was happy to go along with it.

She gave me the instructions on how to fill it out and she said that I need to sign up with hookup.com and get a 1 month gold membership, which is 30 bucks normally, but she said it is free and that after I put in my credit card info it would redirect to a second screen where I could check VERFIY ONLY and not get charged.

Now I am skeptical about this cuz it all doesn't seem to make much sense and of course I have to put in my card info with no confirmation that I really won't be charged. She responded like a normal person and didn't seem like a bot for the site at all. Also she has a google plus account with friends so I'm pretty sure she's real. Of course she could be on the payroll for the site. And that's what I need your opinion on. Does this sound like a scam, or could it really be legitimate? Has this thing happened before and been proven to be a scam? Thanks!

  • Tab for John Lennon's "It's So Hard"?

I really love this song and want to play it. But I can't find the tab for it. I know it's a pretty simple blues shuffle in A, but the exact notes would be helpful as I'm just starting out learning guitar.

Here's a link to the song where you can kind of see Lennon's hands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itaUoVsAqMs

So if you know of a link to the tab (not just chords), or of you could tab the main riffs yourself, that would really helpful. Thanks!

  • How to fix TV volume, internal problem?

My grandma has an old Sony Trinitron television and the volume has become really low all of a sudden. I tried setting the TV up again, and the problem isn't with remote or the channel. So I am fairly certain the problem is internal. How would I go about locating/fixing the problem with the TV? Thanks.

  • Accutane question? Help Please!!?

So I've been on Accutane for four months but my insurance won't cover it anymore and my dermatologist won't prescribe any. I have maybe 12 days worth of pills left. But it is really the only thing that has helped me. And I know that once I'm off it, my acne is jut going to come right back. So would it be better to stretch the pills out over a longer period of time such as taking one pill every three days then one pill a week? That way the medication remains in my system longer? I can't go back to creams and antibiotics because the problem is the sebaceous glands themselves and these do nothing but make my face irritated and oily.

Also, I could care less about potential side effects. It hasn't done anything to me yet.

  • How to modulate from A major to B Major?

I'm writing my first serious piece of music but I have a limited knowledge of music theory. Most of what I have is my improvisation on the piano, though the piece does have a structure. I had a melody section in A major that I ended with a cadence. I want to have a transition section starting in A major and ending on a B major arpeggio so that I can play a variation of the melody in E major. So I was wondering what sequence of chords to use in the bass to transition from A major to B major over a sufficient period of time? I don't want to simply jump the gap, I want it to seem organic.

Also, it would be great if the modulation had some chromatic non-functional harmony as the style of the piece is in the Romantic fashion. Thank you!

  • Guitar help!!?

I started playing the guitar three days ago, but I am having some problems.

First: I find it hard to play open chords. I try playing open A, but I can't get the A and D strings to sound. My fingertips are too far from the fret to make the string sound. But I see in videos that people have their fingertips in the same position and their chords sound right. How can I correct this? I am using extra light strings too by the way.

Also: I find it difficult playing single notes on the middle strings without hitting other strings. I am trying to use the tips of my fingers, but it's difficult to wrap my hand at the angle I need to do so precisely without having to sacrifice a legato sound. Any tips on how to correct this as well?

And I can't afford to get guitar lessons, so a paid teacher is not an option right now. Thanks!

  • Excess androgen? And what to do?

I am an 18 year old male and I believe my body is producing too much androgen. I say so because I have had continuous moderate inflammatory acne for over 4 years, a high sex drive, a lot of hair on the lower part of my body, and, recently discovered, thinning hair.

But I can't grow significant facial hair (though I have a moustache and goatee I want to keep) and I am very skinny. I'm thinking about doing anti-androgen medications, but I want to know how that will affect me. How will t affect facial hair and my frame specifically? Thank you!

  • Need to reset phone!!?

Hi! I found this old Sanyo Incognito of mine and I need to reset it completely. However, I need the passcode in order to do that, but it's been so long that I forgot it. How can I reset it another way?

I'm trying to switch my phone within the same service without buying a new phone. So do I even need to reset the old phone to do this? Or what is the procedure?

  • Velvet Underground "Jesus"?

I'm curious as to what the reason is behind their song "Jesus." I don't think Lou Reed was religious. Is it satire or is their some other meaning I am not grasping?

  • Why does Skype hate me?

I had a .wmv file sent to me over Skype the other day and it was taking too long to download so I cancelled it to try downloading it again. However when I tried to download it again, it wouldn't do anything. So I had the person resend the file and now it just says "waiting." I don't want to cancel the download because then I would be faced with the same problem as before. Is there a way to overcome this situation so that I may download the file?

  • Is this being needy?? Advice greatly needed.?

Last Friday I texted a girl I haven't seen or texted in almost a year. She responded and we had a nice long conversation. I asked to meet up and we did on Monday. We had a great time and she was laughing most of the time and opening up about herself quite extensively. At the end of our rendezvous we agreed to make plans to see each other again. I didn't text her on Tuesday but I texted her Wednesday with an inside joke that was made during our rendezvous. She responded excitedly but didn't reply to the next text I sent a few minutes later, which was strange for her as she always replied to my texts even if she had to reply late. I let that go and tried again on Friday asking her for a favor my friend asked me to ask of her. She didn't reply at all.

I highly doubt that she is the type of girl that would straight up ignore me; she is extremely nice and I can't recall a single instance where I could have done something wrong. She also said that she wasn't going to be busy So I was thinking about messaging her on Skype today (she gave me her Skype name but I haven't added her yet) saying that I hate to be annoying, but I am just curious that everything is alright.

Is that too needy? I really enjoy spending time with her and I don't want to see this thing dissolve because I was being too needy. But I also don't want her to lose interest because of our lack of communication.

So should I do the Skype today? Or what is the best option?

  • Texting advice?

Last week I texted a girl I haven't texted in almost a year. She responded excitedly, albeit a couple hours later but that didn't bother me, but didn't reply to the next text I sent her a few minutes later. I let that go and tried again on Friday asking her for a favor my friend asked me to ask of her. She didn't reply at all.

So my question is what to do in this situation. I don't want to seem too needy or paranoid, but I do want to keep talking to her and see her again soon. She said during our rendezvous that she had a lot of free time now, so I assume she isn't that busy. I don't want to screw up my relationship with this girl by seeming clingy, but I don't want her interest to die down from lack of communication either. She gave me her Skype name, but I didn't add her as a contact or call her. So should I try Skype, or text, or calling her? When should I do it? What should I say?

    Thanks!

  • How does this make sense?

I've heard this expression many times: "You can't expect someone to love you if you don't love yourself first." And it doesn't make a bit of sense.

A person loving himself has no influence on how another person feels for that said person. Someone could actively hate himself and still have someone else be in love with him. So how is it that people who use this expression not see that it is illogical?
