Atheists, should we get rid of the term anti-theist?

I've noticed that this term keeps on getting mixed up with the word atheist. I propose that instead, we define ourselves as either compliant atheists or militant atheists. Do you think this would be more appropriate? If not, what else can we do about this issue?

I am sure the Pope and other church leaders would not want that!

It is nothing to do with atheists and all to do with the way decent people, including real Christians are so appalled at the intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution practiced by BAD Christians towards others!

England's Archbishop of Canterbury has said that Christianity is now known for it's hatreds and not about god!

The real Christians know that ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD Christians which causes all GOOD Christians to despair at the damage they do!

The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!

    Nope.

Just because a word has more than one meaning, doesn't mean we should stop using it.

Simply be clear what you mean when you say 'atheist' or 'anti-theist'.

People will continue to mix up the terms. The problem is not with terms, but with people.

  • Real atheists are not afraid to admit their position of belief, namely that there is no God, is faith-based. Anti-theists, on the other hand, go beyond it and attempt to compel everyone to accept their fancies. I think you still need to distinguish these two groups.

I use atheist and anti-religious. Those are very clear and I do try to explain, when presenting an anti-religious opinion, that it's because I am anti-religious, not because I'm an atheist.

I do not like "compliant" or "militant". Both have negative connotations.

What ever you call yourself, you still need to prove what you say.

  • I think we should call ourselves "the Ninja Turtles".

I think you're a Christian "pretending" to be an atheist here.
