i also agree with Ray. thumbs there!

    but to expand/add/support,

there are a host of sensors and equipment, induction and emiisions, that can have this effect. usually because they are dirty.

but one should start with the basics so as to not skew more indepth trouble shooting if it comes to that.

air filter, fuel filters, clean pcv system. clean/properly functioning egr system. plus minor air leaks around the air filter box, including the ducting from there to the throttle body.

    in support,

seafoam is very popular. they have an intank product that can help clean the fuel systems from within. such as injectors. they also have a product to clean the induction system. itroduced into the vacuum system.

seafoam can also be used to *physically* clean induction sensors. such as air intake temp, idle air, and absolute manifold pressure/flow sensors. o2 sensors also get dirty and get *lazy* over time. those can be tested/cleaned as well.

iffin you feel the need, one can google "reading spark plugs" and pull yours and inspect them one at a time).

    --------

    FYI,

iffin you do a seafoam cleaning on the induction system, go to youtube and do a search on the topic for like vehicle. look at more than one. there are some tips to go by. and one clip will not have all the tips.

Start with basics, check maintenance items: fuel filter, air filter, fuel pressure. Then if it has been a while it cant hurt to tune it up with some plugs, wires, pcv valve, and maybe use a bottle of "Sea foam" fuel cleaner to clean out the fuel system. Really sound like a fuel issue to me.

Early 2000 Corolla engines (1ZZFE) have bad intake manifold gaskets. They get hard and leak air. It will set several engine codes so the mil light should be on. Gasket is less then 12 bucks from the dealer and can be installed easily by someone with skill in less then 30 minutes

Toyota Camrys from this era can have valve problems that will mimic timing problems. I agree with RayW that first using a fuel additive is your best (and cheapest) course of action.

stalling is caused my several things. e.g. vacuum leak. blocked breathing system, lack of fuel pressure. poor timing. too low an idle speed. sticking idle speed control valve etc.

best of having a scan run for fault codes.

do check for intake vacuum leaks. blocked fuel filter etc.
