Possible dry socket?
I had a broken tooth removed on Friday. It was a simple extraction and all seemed well afterwards. Yesterday (Sunday) I could feel a small lump on the side of the gum of the extracted tooth which hurt slightly when touched. Today I woke up and couldn't speak as I felt a strong stinging sensation when I moved my mouth. I rubbed some bonjela (cream for toothache and ulcers) onto the gum and it soothed it instantly. Today my friend has looked into my mouth and said there is something round and white on my gum along the edge and on the inside where the blood clot was. So I looked it up and google came up with dry socket-only isn't that supposed to be extremely painful? I mean, this hurts but I've had worse and surely dry socket pain wouldn't just go with some mild antiseptic cream? It really does feel similar to an ulcer/canker sore pain though. Thank you for all replies!

Hi ok so the small lump is more than likely an ulcer cause by some sort of trauma to the gum around the extraction sight ... Maybe bumped by the lucator or forceps. It's normal for there to be sting and pain after and extraction for up to a week. You have had a part of your body removed after all. A dry socket is not an infection. It is where the blood clot has been washed away or lost after the extraction leave the wound open and not covered by the clot.
The white stuff may be plaque or food debris or may just even by the start if the healing process.
If you are at all worries you should contact your dentist :)

I wouldn't worry about it too much, keep using toothache cream. If you start bleeding or the pain doesn't go away after a week I would go back to the dentist.

Dry socket usually comes on day 9 or so after extraction, an infection needing anti biotics
