You can't go wrong with a Honda or Toyota. When looking for a car, always consider mileage and check for rust under the car, as those are the two most important things to consider when buying a used car.

An older Honda Insight gets over 50 mpg. Really, anything made by Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda. For older cars, try getting stick shift for better gas mileage.

Get a Subaru. Unbelievably reliable.
But you won't really find anything from 87-03 that has impressive gas mileage.

2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX. They are solid, reliable, and safe. The V8 provides plenty of power and they are actually quite fuel efficient.
