Calorie restricted diets tend to end one of two ways. Most people end up stopping and then gaining back the weight they lost and then some. Others begin to binge and purge. This method of controlling weight fails in the long-run.
To learn how to maintain a sleek, slim, and healthy BMI, look for books, videos, and web sites by Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard, Joel Fuhrman, Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., and T. Colin Campbell. This way of losing weight is accomplished without hunger or deprivation.

To do this you need a food scale, a calculator, a sheet and a pen. Now unless you are a middle aged dwarf: 1,200 is too low for you.
