What's actually happening between Ukraine and Russia?

Could someone offer me a basic explanation of what is happening between Russia and Ukraine? I see it a lot in the media but haven't had time to actually look into it. What exactly is the fighting all about?

The West instated a coup and installed anti-Russian Nationalists.

They alienated pro-Russian section of the country who tried to declare themselves autonomous.

The Kiev government responded with force and a violence has been happening since.

the logic means the russians are still acting like soviet imperialists, they can't view the ukraine's action joining the eu as anything other than a loss of influence in what they consider their sphere of influence, the world has moved on, with one proviso those filthy european federalists have engineered the situation.

moved on or gone backwards, it's bismarck's economic conquest of europe plan.

Simplistic answer--much mud and quagmire under the layers. 2 languages spoken in Ukraine--and in some cases 2 allegiances within the Ukrainian border. Russian speakers are a minority faction and feel discriminated upon by the majority. Ukraine belonged to the Soviet Union back in the 80's and were under Soviet rule and oppression. Now they are a separate country with borders but have strong economic ties and generational ties to the former Soviet Union. Government collapse--people endure. The borders were agreed upon by Russia--and now those borders are now being violated with the aid of Russian sympathizers within the Ukrainian border. The new Russia or some people inside Russia want Ukraine back--to be absorbed into Russia and the agreed upon borders dissolved immediately.
