Why do Protestants claim to be of one church when their doctrines disagree?

I've heard members of various Protestant denominations say that all Protestant denominations are really of one church because they preach of Christ. How can they claim to be one church when their doctrines disagree with one another? If you are not one in doctrine, you are not one in God.

protestants first protest against the catholic church; now they are protesting against each other trying to prove that one church 40k denominations is the true church, competing with the jehovah witness.

I am Evangelical and all believing Christians are one in Jesus Christ. I have recited the "apostles creed" in my church, and it is typically recited in catholic and orthodox churches.
