Some good and flavorful pipe tobaccos to try? Preferably not mild?
I'm somewhat new to the pipe smoking hobby, and I'd like some insight. I've tried a few burley tobaccos (Prince Albert, SmoKer's Pride, etc) that I've enjoyed, one English (John Bull Royal English), a Cavendish (Lane BCA), and a few blends of the like, but nothing has really "stood out" to me. They all taste relatively similar with only slight nuances in variance, excluding the English and Cavendish blends. I'm thinking I might want something stronger. As I was a cigar smoker first, I may be accustomed to the robust flavors of cigars rather than the more lightness of some pipe tobaccos. I'm willing to try just about anything, but it can't be too expensive. Any ideas?

I used to smoke a pipe years and years ago. I fell in love with Latakia tobacco, a form of Turkish tobacco dried over pine fires that gives it a smoky flavor. (Can you imagine that? Smoky-flavored SMOKE?)
The major brand available here in California was Balkan Sobranie, but we had cigar stores in those days that could mix up their own mixtures.
I found that pipe tobacco that smelled good to others tasted horrible (and burned very hot). Balkan Sobranie tasted good but smelled to others like burning rubber.
Anyway try it.
