  • If you believe in reincarnation, should suffering emotionally affect us, since it will go away in the next life?

This is an issue thats plagued me the past month. As someone who wants to believe in reincarnation, I don t understand how one can be upset about suffering if we re going to go to another life anyway where it doesn t happen.

Take this situation- a child loses their mother at a young age. They re distraught.

Me, as an empathetic person, would feel upset with them.

But when I put the idea of reincarnation into the ordeal, I feel nothing. Why should I care if it won t bother them in the next life?

    I hate this mindset.

If you believe in reincarnation, how do you deal with suffering? Are you able to feel emotional about it? What type of mindset do you use for situations like this?

  • Dealing with severe social phobia without medications?

    Hey all!

I've recently come off of my medications (roughly two weeks ago) due to unacceptable side effects, and I'd been feeling super, but now that it's completely out of my system, I am getting the severe social phobia symptoms I used to get before I went on the meds. Cringing just while talking to someone, overwhelming fear about talking to anyone to the point I clench my muscles to cope.

I can tell that I'm more capable now- much more so than I was when I began the meds as a child 7 years ago. Though I need some great/effective coping methods.

What has worked for you? What should I try?

  • Is Far Cry 3 still worth playing / enjoyable since I've played Far Cry 4?

I have both on my PC, but I've never actually played FC3.. However, with Ubisoft's relentless onslaught of bugs plaguing FC4, I've been considering playing FC3 instead, until the bugs get worked out. Is this worthwhile? I have put in some time in FC4 already, and I worry that 3 won't be as "fun" now that I've experienced 4.

  • How to get over my fears of embarrassment due to my appearance during sex?

I'm bisexual. I'm almost 19, and I'm a virgin. I'm not exactly skinny, and I'm pretty hairy. Every time I think about sex (regarding me), I always have the fear that my partner will do one or more of the following:

    1. Laugh

    2. Puke/gag/etc.

    3. Simply get up and leave

    4. Not be turned on whatsoever

I used to not worry about these things as much. Unfortunately, that changed due to people online who said I was really cute. They (all guys) begged me for nudes. I delivered. They ceased communication. I suspect it has more to do with my body hair than my weight, but I can't be too sure.

I have a tendency to be paranoid, and I'm well aware of that. However I don't know how much, if any, of my fear regarding this issue is paranoia.

Has anyone any advice? Anecdotes from your own experiences?

  • What is some emperical evidence for molecules-to-macro evolution?

I (unfortunately) found myself in the middle of an argument about evolution, and I was asked for emperical evidence for "molecules-to-man evolution" (which I generalized to macroorganisms in general rather than just man) and I simply have no real interest in the topic, thus my knowledge of this is strictly limited.

What emperical evidence is there for this?

  • Some good and flavorful pipe tobaccos to try? Preferably not mild?

I'm somewhat new to the pipe smoking hobby, and I'd like some insight. I've tried a few burley tobaccos (Prince Albert, SmoKer's Pride, etc) that I've enjoyed, one English (John Bull Royal English), a Cavendish (Lane BCA), and a few blends of the like, but nothing has really "stood out" to me. They all taste relatively similar with only slight nuances in variance, excluding the English and Cavendish blends. I'm thinking I might want something stronger. As I was a cigar smoker first, I may be accustomed to the robust flavors of cigars rather than the more lightness of some pipe tobaccos. I'm willing to try just about anything, but it can't be too expensive. Any ideas?

  • Hair thinning at 18.. What can I do?

So, my hair is beginning to thin and I'm freaking out to the point that I feel like puking. I've no idea on the effectiveness of hair regrowth products not to mention I want to puke more when I research them. I'm legitimately considering suicide over this (yes I do have a counselor). I keep my hair similar to how Bieber used to keep his, or how Reed Deming keeps it now, for reference. I don't get any attention if I don't keep it like that, from my experience, and that's what's really worrying me.

  • Is it bad that I prefer iOS over Android?

Basically, I've been telling myself that I'd love an Android for all of its features over iOS. But now that I have an Android, I can plainly say that I was dead wrong. I simply can't stand using it. It just feels clunky to me. But I don't want to be considered as someone who has an iPhone for the name, and I worry that will happen once I return this Android for a 5S.

  • I'm not romantically interested in anyone. Is that bad? Can I do something about it?

I'm an 18 year old male. Just graduated from high school a few weeks ago. I find it extremely difficult to become interested in someone. I don't understand why. I do consider myself to be gay, but I doubt that makes any difference. I WAS interested in someone before, but he turned out to be straight, and it killed me inside. But I doubt this makes any difference, either. I don't know what it is. I'm interested in sexual activity, but that's about as far as it goes. I haven't been in a relationship in over two years, and it's really getting to me. I've self-harmed over it (I no longer do this, though), I cry, and I just generally am depressed. It seems to get worse as the days go on, because my friends are all pairing off, and they're very happy in their relationships. Happiness is something I haven't been able to describe myself as being for years. I can't say that I've had a relationship that I considered to be "good." I know a lot of it is probably jealousy. I feel like I want to force myself to become interested in someone, but I don't know if I can do that.

What is my problem, and can I really do anything about it?

  • What cigars would you recommend for a beginner?

I'm looking to take up cigar smoking as a hobby. The idea fascinates me. I've had a few so far, but they were just cheap ones. AKA Black and Mild, Dutch Masters, White Owl, etc.

I'm going to a smoke shop at my local Native American reservation (tax free!) soon and I would like some ideas as for what to get. Yes I plan on getting a humidor.

  • Gaming mouse recommendation?

I need something that will last.

I'm coming from a Cobra Junior mouse that's become defective in approximately 6 months. It was perfect for me, otherwise.

What Im looking for is a palm-grippable mouse (I can't stand claw gripping), that can go up to at least 1600 DPI. A DPI button would be useful. I've never owned a mouse with other programmable buttons, so I don't know if they would really help me at all. I just don't want them to get in the way.

I mainly use my current mouse for a variety of FPS, 4x4 strategy (IE Civ. V), and some other misc. titles like The Binding of Isaac.

Budget is whatever. I'm willing to pay. I just need it to last.

  • Statistics homework issues?

I'm not sure if I'm thinking about this the right way, but I'm confused.

"A survey asks a random sample of 1500 adults in Ohio if they support an increase in the state sale tax from 5% to 6%, with the additional revenue going to education. Let p-hat denote the proportion in the sample who say they support the increase. Suppose 40% of all adults in Ohio support the increase"

What is the mean of the sampling distribution of p-hat?

How can I find the mean? Would it just be the 40%/1500?

  • Can I install DLC on disc on two Xbox 360 consoles?

I've got a 360 at both my mother's and my father's house, but only one of them has Internet access. I recently got both Skyrim Legendary Edition and Fallout 3 GOTY edition. Can I install the DLC from the discs that come with them onto both consoles? Or would I need to buy another Legendary or GOTY edition to do so?

  • Looking for a laptop. Recommendations?

I'm a high school senior looking for a laptop for the rest of the current year and college.

I'm going to be going into computer science, so I think I'll need something at least decent.

I don't have a sure max budget right now, but let's say $500.

What I'm looking for in a laptop is a decently sized hard-drive, preferably 750 GB or more, but if I could get an overall better computer that only had 500GB of storage, I'd definitely take that, as I do have a 1TB external already. RAM at the VERY minimum 4GB, but I feel like I could easily get 6GB or even 8GB of RAM with a $500 laptop.

Graphics abilities are pretty important to me as well. My $300 desktop has integrated Intel HD 2000 and I'm looking for something better than that, as I'd like to use the laptop for gaming as well as everyday computing.

On-board sound quality isn't too important to me, as I plan to get an external DAC/amp pretty soon (probably FiiO E07K).

I'd preferably not have to get an HP or Dell, but.. if you truly think that they'd be best for my specifications, then by all means, suggest them.

    Thanks!

  • Did Germany control Japan during WWII?

I'm having an argument with someone who is saying that Germany controlled Japan during WWII, thus making it Germany who bombed Pearl Harbor.

Was Japan under Germany's control during WWII? I'm 99% sure that it wasn't..
