When keeping track of the countries and cities you've been to, do you count short stays at the airport where you don't leave the terminal?

When I went to Italy and Netherlands, I didn't leave the airport. Can I still say I have been to those countries? Also, the only time I have been to Texas was when I was stuck at the DFW airport terminal for three hours this past May. Can I still say I have been to Texas?

No, I don't count it when I don't leave the terminal. However, if you want to count it, that's up to you. As far as I'm concerned, you really don't get much of an experience of what a country is like when you're in the airport.

When stuck in the airport, I always count it with an asterisk and never count it in a total of states of countries that I have visited.

No, because you stay in the airport terminal you have not actually entered the country, or seen anything of that country.
