Is this identity theft?
Me and a couple of other friends decided to pull a prank on another friend by using his phone number to sign up for a facebook account. Then his Facebook account gets put on hold for signing up on 2 accounts with 1 number. He finds out and ends up threatening to sue us for identity theft. I didn't really know why he was so mad, since we were all friends. I guess I just didn't know him as well as I thought I did. His parents are lawyers, and he's really mad about us pulling a prank on him. I understand that this is illegal now, but is this actually identity theft that we could be sued for? How can I protect myself?

Identity theft using online profiles if you've logged into or changed their online accounts without their permission, harassing or offending someone online and threatening or intimidating someone and
stalking someone like posting things to cause harm towards them. If your a criminal informant partaking in online mobbing recruited by law enforcement for organized predator gang stalking nothing will happen, although it's illegal but since law enforcement is the ones hired to uphold the law they can get away breaking the law protecting the snitches thanks to the patriot act.

The problem with pulling pranks, is you need to be careful of not getting sued for them. Go in and terminate the account you have created and be man enough to apologize for what you have done. Some pranks are not funny.

I'd say grow up would be a good thing to do. Why would you think he wouldn't be mad? Geez. Yes it is identity theft to say you are someone you aren't. You must understand that. I'd say you can't get in trouble but I'd be very careful not to do this crap again. That would lead to trouble.
