Could tap water be causing my kidney stones?
I moved to Iowa in the summer of 2012, and like clock work, I've been getting hit severely with kidney stones every six months since I moved here. I moved from Utah, and only got kidney stones there like twice in the several years I lived there, and they weren't nearly as bad either. Could it be the tap water here in Iowa? I've done nothing consistently different from when I lived in Utah, since I've lived here. I'm just wanting it to stop!

Gordon, not sure if uric or calcium based. I have to do this urine test that I have to send in to have my urine analyzed, and then they can hopefully give me more info.
Lala, our water is very hard here, but it was in Utah too. Both cities I live(d) in got their water from ground water sources, but in Iowa, due to agricultural activity, it's much more heavily treated than in Utah, where the water just came from below a desert. I'm guessing here in Iowa they use many more chemicals to treat the water, which could have something to do with it I suppose.

Are they uric acid kidney stones or calcium kidney stones?
The type of kidney stone that you've had in the past should change your diet. If it is calcium stones, then you cut down on calcium through milk and maybe tap water.
But if it is uric acid, then you need to eat less meat. The kidneys produce uric crystals as a byproduct of meat consumption in certain people, and this collects either in the kidneys or the joints [gout]. So you can't eat fish and meat forever if you are one of these people.
