Ways to keep ants OUT of your house?

These stupid ants are all over everyone's house because there's an obvious drought. Does anyone know good ways to teach them not to keep coming into your house?

    Some steps for prevention:

-store any sugar and sweets into airtight plastic containers.

I use to keep sugar just in the bag they came in, but now I put the bag inside another plastic container for double protection.

-get garbage cans with lids on them (in case you don't already)

-frequently clean kitchen of crumbs, etc. and don't leave any food out. Even the smallest drops can attract them! Try not to eat outside of the kitchen to prevent crumbs from going to other places in the house.

Now, there are also many ant repellents that you can spray around your house, but there are also many ant poison that the ants will mistake for food and take back to their nest and kill them. Try looking on amazon.com for reviews on which of them might work best for you.

I don't think you can teach ants much However, you can deter and kill the infestation with diatomaceous earth. It works great!!!! Sprinkle it around areas of infestation and where they are traveling. Since you're in a drought, you can also sprinkle it outside around your home It is safe for anything bigger than a bug, so you don't have to worry about kids or pets.

Out side ant bait spread around the yard will kill the ants. Baby powder with talc in it will repel them inside.
