How should I prevent my pipes from getting clogged?

So, I had clogs in a couple of sinks in my home which I cleaned out. They were full of sludge and slime and some hair. Should I pour down some Drano periodically to keep them clean? Is there something else I can use, like vinegar or something that will work well? I just want them to stay clean and not smell.

fat and hair are usually the culprits! eeeww. Rather than drano or something else so caustic, try running very hot water for a while- about once a week or so pour some baking soda into the drain ,then add some vinegar. This will fizz up and help keep the drain clear.

Clogged is caused by too many unwanted object that stuck and some solid wasted oil.Indeed its actually because of the oil.The greatest solution is to use hot water mix with detergent.Pour it twice a week to prevent from clogging.Avoid washing your oily stuff through sink.Put some detergent to the oil and throw it to your backyard or your drain.Oil will turn to solid in small area for some time.

The hair is the culprit here. No hair down drain, no slime, no stink. They make small screens to prevent stuff from going down the drain.
