Was 'Dragnet' Based In L.A. When On The Radio?

    Yes. Although before "Dragnet," Webb did a radio show at KGO in San Francisco called "Pat Novak For Hire" in which Pat--I mean Jack--played a tough-guy, wise-guy private eye who sounded a lot like Joe Friday.

    Yes, that is true. The Dragnet radio programs, created by and starring Jack Webb,

    began on June 3, 1949 and lasted until Feb. 3,1957. The television series, again created

    by Webb, who starred as Sgt. Joe Friday, featured Ben Alexander as his partner solving

    crime. That TV series lasted from Jan. 3, 1952 until August 23, 1959. Webb revived the

    series on Jan. 12, 1967 until April 16, 1070, when his partner was Harry Morgan, who played

    Officer Bill Gannon.
