Indigo does not know what she is talking about!
Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, a "must see" for most tourists. But you will need to take a boat tour out to the reef and that could be expensive.
And Canberra, while it is the seat if Federal Government, is a beautiful city in it's own right. Lots of green space, close to the Snowy Mountains, is home to sone beautiful modern buildings, galleries and museums, and had three lakes.
I suggest you get a good tourist guidebook to Australia and work out what interests you. Two weeks is not enough to see more than two cities. I am not sure why you are flying in to Darwin, Cairns or Brisbane might be better. But you will not have time to see more than the North East of the country.
You are expected to have enough money to live on during your time in Australia, that is a condition of your visa.
