Maybe. It's just an expression. I use that phrase myself quite a bit.

Good question. When you sneeze do you expect to hear a "bless you?" Regardless of religion, most people say bless you after someone sneezes, you have to make a conscious effort not to. It just becomes the norm.

Personally I do not, I have almost died three or four times, two of them I was conscious the entire time, and I remember saying Oh cr@p and the like. The other times I hit the ground so hard from my chute not opening that I blacked out, and was hit by such force from the IED that I blacked out; so not much was said. Then again, I only thought I was going to die, technology and reflexes saved me.

Funny thing is, there was no sslow-mo life reel or pearly gates, I had nothing close to those experiences.

I guess yes, this is an expressing term we learn from others when we are in trouble. So of course, an atheist also screams 'Oh My God' when he/she knows that he/she is going to die.

But it is quite common for Christians faced with their own death or that of a loved one to renounce Chrsitianity!

Given the silly posts that make Chrsitianity such a laughingstock many renounce Chrsitianity long before then!

Actually, even for Christians, "Oh Sh!T!!!" seems to be the default. At least that's what comes up on black boxes more often than not.

It's a catchy phrase and it seems to circulate with the culture, so yes. Otherwise we'd probably say SEVEN BLOODY HELLS, or something.

It's a common saying in the lexicon. You aren't literally trying to condemn someone to eternal torment when you say "Go To Hell", are you? And you aren't attempting to elicit sexual favors when you say '**** You", are you?
