When do I take my 2 year old back to the ER for dehydration?

I brought my 2 year old to the ER yesterday because she wasn't drinking anything & having "mouth" pain (she kept saying her mouth hurt). Come to find out, it was her throat (not strep, just a sore throat). They gave her oral steroids & she began to drink, had a small wet diaper, so they let her go.

In the discharge instructions, it says to come back to the ER if she becomes severely dehydrated. Well, she is finally drinking semi-normally, but she has not had a sufficient wet diaper since I changed her out of her overnight diaper (it is not 4:30pm).

She also has chronic constipation & her going a few days not having much to drink, she has not had a bowel movement in 5 days (she does take Miralax and Lactulose daily).

At what point do I take her back to the ER? Should I call the doctor & see what they say? Any ideas?

Her body is recovering liquids, so it's okay for her to not urinate as much. Go ahead and call your doctor, but don't worry about the ER. Just give plenty of water, and Pedyalyte if you have any. It will be a few days before she goes back to normal.

Our pediatrician told us as long as it's even just a teensy bit of pee, it is safe. If she is drinking and just has a sore throat I wouldnt take her back. Obviously she doesn't feel well so keep encouraging liquids, especially frozen ones like a Popsicle to ease throat pain. Call the dr tomorrow first thing if you're still concerned.
