Can someone help me interpret these blood test results?
I recently got a full blood work up done, including a CMP. One of the results says eGFR NON-AFR. AMERICAN, which from my understanding is kidney function (I was also tested for the same thing as African American as well with a different result, I am not African American). My results are 126 mL/min/1.73m2.
Is this normal range or no?
3 AnswersDiabetes6 years agoAccidental acetaminophen overdose?
I was taking Percocet 5/325 & had no idea that APAP meant acetaminophen. What I was doing was taking Tylenol (2 extra strength pills), then taking 2 of the Percocets if the Tylenol didn't work (which was 90% of the time). I was doing this every 4-6 hours depending on my pain level. I did keep track of everything (only because I'm taking a tapered dose of Prednisone as well, so thank goodness for that) & I never went over 5,000mg a day for 4 days. This is still a a lot & I was worried, so I called Poison Control. They said I should be fine as long as I have a decently healthy liver (had my liver function checked in September & it was fine). My last dose of anything containing acetaminophen was Friday at 3:30pm. It's now Tuesday at 9:20am, am I probably in the clear? I do have some soreness in my upper right abdomen, but I've had that before (reason for the liver function test in September) without acetaminophen. I have diarrhea as well, but I have occasional bouts of diarrhea occasionally & it's normal for me. I'll make an appointment with my doctor who can examine me but until they open at noon, I'm asking here. :)

She is receiving federal financial aid in the form of loans & Pell grants. Surely this can't be legal..can it? Can I report it? If so, who do I report it to?
1 AnswerFinancial Aid6 years agoInflammation of throat on CT scan?
I had a CT scan done of the soft tissues of my throat in the ER because of recurring throat pain. The Dr said he saw stones in my salivary glands on the right side, which he didn't think was a problem. He also said I had inflammation in my throat at the base of my tongue. He told me that it could be my tonsil growing back (had them removed in 1993) or something else, but he wasn't sure. He put me on an antibiotic & I'm taking it. I have an appointment with my ENT in 2.5 weeks, so I'll know for sure what's going on soon. My question is- what could this inflammation be? Could it be cancer or would cancer show up differently on a CT scan? Thanks in advance. :)
2 AnswersOther - Health6 years agoWhat could cause inflammation at the base of my tongue?
I had some type of a virus around Christmas time & noticed I had some type of 'flap' in my throat where my left tonsil used to be. I've been having issues since then, sometimes pain & sometimes a weird feeling in my throat. I had a CAT scan with contrast done earlier today & it showed that I have stones in my salivary ducts & I have inflammation at the base of my tongue. The doctor in the ER said he wasn't sure what it was, but my white blood cell count was high as well. Everything I read is saying cancer. I'm 27 year old, female, non smoker, no alcohol, no drugs. He prescribed an antibiotic & told me to follow up with my PCP on Monday & my ENT ASAP. What could cause this? The doctor never mentioned cancer, it was all Google, by the way. I have bad anxiety & the thought of cancer is enough to send me into a horrible panic attack. 😔
2 AnswersOther - Health6 years agoNervous about HIV test results..?
I got my blood drawn for HIV yesterday & I've been freaking out ever since. I had my last test done March 26 2014 (about 8 weeks since having sex with my ex the first time), but I was with my ex & had sex one more time 2 months after the test was done. It was negative. I had sex twice with another guy, one time without protection & he pulled out before he ejaculated & one time with a condom. I explained all this to the practitioner at my doctor's office & she said I should be fine & not to worry, but I have anxiety & I'm still freaking out. In my heart of hearts I know that regardless of the test results, life will go on. But that 'what if' is always there. Anything to ease my mind or occupy it at least? Thanks :)
1 AnswerSTDs6 years agoAm I overreacting or do I have a right to be upset?
I was at Walmart yesterday shopping with my 2 year old daughter & one of the employees commented that my daughter looked a lot like her granddaughter. I thought that was cute, so I said 'aww, she must be a beautiful girl' & I continued on my way. Well, the employee followed me around the department, meanwhile I thought I was making it pretty obvious that our conversation was over. She finally walked away & I went on with my shopping. A minute or so later, I turned my back on the cart (probably shouldn't have, but hindsight is 20/20) & turned back around & this same employee was running her fingers through my daughter's hair, telling her how beautiful she was. I quickly grabbed the cart, told the employee to leave us alone & left the department. I was in the front of the store by customer service & I see this employee running up to the front of the store, telling me to hold on because she wanted another employee to see how much my daughter resembled her granddaughter. I told her I had to go & she kept telling me to wait. By this time I was creeped out. I went up to the front end manager & she said 'is this your daughter? Miss Debby was just telling us how much she looks like her granddaughter.' Um, really? I explained how inappropriate the employee's behavior was & the manager laughed it off. I went to another manager & was laughed at then too. I finally got to the assistant manager, who also laughed about it but told me to call today & speak to the general manager.
2 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoAm I going to die?
I was unaware that percocet contained acetominophen & I accidentally ingested 5200mg between Tylenol & the Percocet (taking percocet for kidney stones). My last dose was at around 10pm last night & it is now 1:30pm. I've had no real symptoms except for some soreness in my stomach & anxiety about having ingested this much acetominophen. I did contact poison control & they said I should be fine. I just need some reassurance. I don't drink, no other drugs. 27 year old female, 319 pounds. I also had a liver function test in September & it was fine, in case that matters.
6 AnswersOther - Health7 years agoWhat the heck is wrong with me?
For the past 6+ months, I've been having pain in my upper right abdomen. It's about an inch above my belly button but on the right side (my liver is higher, right?). It's a dull, achy pain that gets worse once in awhile but never gets above like a 4 on a 1-10 scale. About 2-3 months ago, I went to the doctor & they did a CAT scan & blood work (including what they called 'belly labs' which I would assume included liver function). They said my liver looked good, my pancreas looked good & my labs were fine. Would a CAT scan be more conclusive than an ultrasound? I also had my gallbladder removed in 2003. I have no other symptoms at all. Just the pain. Any ideas what this could be?
3 AnswersPain & Pain Management7 years agoWhen do I take my 2 year old back to the ER for dehydration?
I brought my 2 year old to the ER yesterday because she wasn't drinking anything & having "mouth" pain (she kept saying her mouth hurt). Come to find out, it was her throat (not strep, just a sore throat). They gave her oral steroids & she began to drink, had a small wet diaper, so they let her go.
In the discharge instructions, it says to come back to the ER if she becomes severely dehydrated. Well, she is finally drinking semi-normally, but she has not had a sufficient wet diaper since I changed her out of her overnight diaper (it is not 4:30pm).
She also has chronic constipation & her going a few days not having much to drink, she has not had a bowel movement in 5 days (she does take Miralax and Lactulose daily).
At what point do I take her back to the ER? Should I call the doctor & see what they say? Any ideas?
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler7 years agoI think I accidentally swiped the wrong card doing a return?
I was returning something to the store earlier today & since I paid with a credit card, they asked me to swipe my card. I accidentally swiped my Bank of America debit card. What happens now?
1 AnswerCredit7 years agoStraight pin in toddler clothes at JC Penney?
I purchased a set of PJs at JC Penney over the weekend & I wanted to try them on my DD before I took the tag off to wash them. I put the shirt on her & she started crying. I pulled the shirt off thinking the tag was sticking her & I see a straight pin stuck in the shirt. It had stuck my daughter & it drew blood. I cleaned her puncture wound up & applied a Bandaid to make DD happy.
I was curious if this was common practice or if someone was supposed to take it out & it was overlooked. I did call the store & mention it & the manager gave me corporate's number if I wanted to call them. I'm a little bit ticked that my DD was stuck, but I'm not going to call & make a huge fuss.
So, are there usually straight pins in kids clothes?
5 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoCan I ask Bank of America to allow me to overdraw my account if I'm willing to pay the fees?
I have an unforeseen expense this month that needs to be paid ASAP and my check will not deposit into my account until Thursday. I am willing to pay any fees necessary. Basically I did not realize that since a new year is starting on my water bill, they charge a $100 fee or shut your water off because they assume that you do not want the account anymore. I have already requested an extension once trying to get to this Thursday. The check that will be deposited on Thursday is $270, so plenty to cover it. I called and 'chatted' with a customer service representative on their website and she pretty much said that there is nothing that they can do. Would I get a different response if I call & speak to someone?
I know that this is extremely irresponsible of me, but sometimes things happen. I'm kicking myself for forgetting about this fee. Anyone have any additional ideas?
1 AnswerPersonal Finance7 years agoCan a primary care physician legally drug test me at every visit?
I am looking for a new primary care doctor. I called one in my area and the receptionist asked my name and I gave it to her. Her very next question was if I was on any pain medication. I was a little confused, so I asked if I had made a mistake and accidentally called a pain management doctor. She said no then asked the same question again, so I told her that I was not on any pain medications. She said that it was their policy that I would be drug tested at every appointment. I asked why and she transferred me to the doctor himself. He answered the phone and said 'you want to be my patient?' I did not exactly know what to say, so I said yes and he said 'okay hold on' & transferred me back to the receptionist. I don't want to be treated like an addict if I go to the doctor for an ear infection. Is this legal? I live in Delaware if that matters.
And yes, I am 100% aware that I do not have to go to this doctor, I am just curious if this is legal.
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoWhen a hospital writes off a patient's bills as a tax write off, does that mean that tax payers payed?
I'm not sure how all of this works. My grandmother was uninsured before she passed away. She had many medical bills & the hospital finance department told me that the hospital has a certain amount of bills that they can write off each year, so they wrote off my grandmother's bills. Does this essentially mean that tax payers are paying her bills? Or is it some sort of agreement that the government has with the hospital?
I hope this makes sense.
2 AnswersOther - Politics & Government7 years agoIs this anxiety or something else?
I am having back problems and the doctor put me on pain medication (Percocet). I hate taking it because I am afraid of overdosing, even though I am taking the prescribed amount. I just took my pain medicine & I am having a feeling in my chest & I feel like I'm unable to take a good deep breath (but I can talk normally, where if I was actually having trouble breathing, I would have trouble talking as well), some tightness in my chest & I'm sleepy. I had a full cardiac work up for a surgery that I had done 4 years ago, so I had no congenital heart problems. I'm almost 27 years old, a female & I am overweight. I asked my Mother & she said that I'm young to have a heart attack without any previous cardiac history (my Mom is a nurse). Is she right? Is this anxiety? Or do I need to call an ambulance?
1 AnswerPsychology7 years agoWhat should my cousin do about her roomates/landlord?
My cousin is currently a drug addict in recovery. She recently found a room for rent through one of the classified pages on Facebook. The room is $400 a month all utilities included & she was sharing the house with the owner of the house & one other roommate. She talked back & forth with the owner through texts & the owner knew she was in recovery & said that she herself had never had a drug issue but she would help my cousin the best she can, they met up the next day & my cousin moved in 3 days later. Everything was great the first week, the owner was really helping my cousin out and motivating her to do better. After a week, my cousin found out the the landlord moved another roommate in, then a few days later she moved another roommate in. This is in a 3 bedroom house, so someone is even sleeping on the sofa. They took the air conditioner and the television out of my cousin's room (they belong to the owner, but they were there when she moved into the furnished room, so she assumed that they were going to be there for the duration of her stay).
Fast forward to now, my cousin has been there for about a month. Every single person in that house (the owner, the roommate that was already there, plus the two new roommates) all do heroin (my cousin's drug of choice). She never signed an actual contract other than she will pay X amount of money per month. Moving out isn't really an option because she can't afford to pay a second rent this month. What are her choices?
