What the heck is wrong with me?

For the past 6+ months, I've been having pain in my upper right abdomen. It's about an inch above my belly button but on the right side (my liver is higher, right?). It's a dull, achy pain that gets worse once in awhile but never gets above like a 4 on a 1-10 scale. About 2-3 months ago, I went to the doctor & they did a CAT scan & blood work (including what they called 'belly labs' which I would assume included liver function). They said my liver looked good, my pancreas looked good & my labs were fine. Would a CAT scan be more conclusive than an ultrasound? I also had my gallbladder removed in 2003. I have no other symptoms at all. Just the pain. Any ideas what this could be?

Hello...hard to reproduce your name, but glad you love him.

If you repost, might be a good idea to include your age. Different problems are more prevalent in different age groups.

The imaging of the thoracic contents by CT might not have been the best choice. CT is better for bony detail, while MRI is better for soft tissue problems and illumination. The tests you have had so far are good, though, for a start.

The location you are describing sounds like the appendix to me most likely. If you push in gently and suddenly release, does it hurt worse? If so, that's called 'rebound tenderness' and is a classic sign of appendix problems. If it's not that, then you might need a lower GI study.

Sometimes, although your don't have a gallbladder, a residual stone can stay in the ducts leading away from the gallbladder. But it wuld be picket up by the CT scan. It can't be anything too dangerous, since nothing picked it up and you don't feel too bad.

Is it constant? Does it come and go? Stabbing, burning, throbbing, aching? Is it localized or does it move around or radiate? My medical degree is only from Yahoo! Answers, so what did my colleagues who read the scan and your labs say?
