Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter with last 3 digits of Serial # HAND engraved in cylinder? Is this normal?

Has anybody else seen this on their Ruger SAA Revolvers?

Had this gun on layaway for a while, the prize of my hand gun collection. But when I took the cylinder out it had the last 3 digits of the Serial Number HAND engraved in between 3 of the chambers.

When I mean hand engraved it looks like somebody drunk did it with a hand held electric engraving pencil! Which wouldn't bother me but the numbers are just sloppy and are so large you can see them even when it's in the weapon!

They are 1/8" tall with my measurement. I read Ruger does this with convertible models, and I am awaiting feedback from the Ruger Support Team. I can't believe this is standard practice on one of Ruger's most well known products.

Update:

Jadamgrd, the gun was ordered new from Ruger, test fired on 06/24/2014 at the Factory and I'm the original owner.

Update 2:

I said in my original question I was waiting feedback, but I was anxious to see if any other Ruger owners had this issue. I got my response but don't like it. It IS factory the engraved numbers when they fit it to the revolver. Good god it's ugly :(

Just went and looked at my Ruger .357/9mm Convertible Blued. Unfired in the box, would have been bought about 1988, a three screw NO transfer bar. No such marking on mine.

Added : Mine is a Blackhawk also. Yes, good to call Ruger, if you are the original owner, it was NOT a previous owner who did this, so Ruger would tell you all about this marking.

Why are you asking here? This is a very obvious question you should be calling Ruger customer support and asking of them. Finding chicken scratched engraving on your new gun is unacceptable.

FYI - I have two Ruger Super Redhawks and they have no such number scratching on their cylinders.

Sounds like an aftermarket cylinder fitting. Someone engraved the #s so they would know what gun it went with.

Edit: My Super Blackhawk doesn't have that engraved. I would contact the store you bought it first. If they have a gunsmith on staff. For what ever reason it might still been replaced. Might be your answer right there

if you are the orignal owner then you need to contact ruger about this. I believe i would also contact the gun shop owner and see what he has to say about it as well.
