2004 Ford Mustang 3.8 V6 Convertible, best advice for minor performance increase?

I have owned the car for over 5 years now, and it was a Christmas Present from my Mother. Were not well off and this was amazing and I cherish the car even though it was already 5 years old when we got it.

This picture is very recent, and it only has 51,000 miles on it now mostly all from me. But I'm wanting to at lease be able to keep up with V6 Accords and Camry's!

I ask ever few months hoping to get the perfect response that's not sell the car and get a GT. It's very hard for me to sell it, I'm way to sentimental for my own good.

Anybody know of a way for some minor performance enhancements so I can keep up with a friggin family sedan. Not looking for GT performance just... More that what it's got!

  • DPMS Oracle 5.56 gritty bolt.?

Hello all, hoping this question actually post this time, last 3 never made it live?

The bolt is gritty, sandy, how ever you want to call it it just doesn't feel smooth cycling it. My S&W M&P 15-22 a .22lr training rifle is butter compared to this. Is this just how the low end DPMS are?

Is polishing the rough textured bolt recommended or will it that what ever junky finish they have in it off? Anybody know any You Tube showing this, I haven't found a video yet.

Just picked up a new DPMS Oracle after getting a lot of store credit and used it on this rifle. Set it up pretty nice but haven't shot it yet. Setting it up for small game hunting, if I ever do decide to go hunting :/

    Thanks all.

  • How soft is it acceptable for the metal rail between shotgun barrels? SxS Coach Gun?

Me again about this ERA Coach Gun yet again. I just got the Brownell bead and put a sight on it.

My issue is, I have drilled into the rear sight blade on a Mosin Rifle, it was ridiculously hard to do it even just to get a dimple for a set screw!

This Shotgun has a thick metal rail between the two barrels. I measured center, then used a punch hoping to get a starting notch for the drill bit. I got a notch alright, and the drill just sunk into this steel like it was chipboard! I'm still in shock.

Is this acceptable for the metal between barrels? This new Shotgun was less expensive then the JW-2000 Chinese coach gun I bought years back. It's very cheaply constructed, with the cavity between the barrels on the underside hollowed out in places.

Bought it on a whim, liked the wood on it. I've fired it and got the Firing Pin working. Yes it was gunk in the spring thank you J. c and Lana_Sands for the suggestions. But now very iffy to shoot anything out of it short of low brass birdshot.

  • ERA Brazil made for F.I.E. Miami FL. 12 gauge coach gun. Light primer strikes.?

Posted about this gun I traded a Maverick 88 in for about a week ago asking if anybody had heard of it. Finally got to take it out to the range today, and the accuracy for this IC Choke on Skeet shocked me. The barrels have to be perfectly welded together, quite impressed.

I was until around the 20th round. The right chamber is having light primer strikes now. I can rotate the shell after it fails to fire and the second strike will usually make it go off, but just trying again zilch.

Is it worth trying to have the shop send it to ERA for repair, it's new when I purchased it but I have no experience with ERA. Anybody have any know how on how ERA or F.I.E. handle repairs? I'm about ready to tear it apart and see what the issue is myself.

If I can tear down a 1851 Colt BP Revolver into all 37 pieces this should be much easier shouldn't it? Never torn into a break open shotgun's mechanism before.

  • Hunting's section's dried up :( New Fantasy 'What weapon would you take for...' Fun question.?

I've seen a crud ton of Survival, SHTF, Zombie questions posted before. So I'm going to try and mix the same generic question up a little and turn it a bit sci-fi'ish.

If you were the Security Person of an expedition to an unknown alien world, what kind of weapons would you take? Your only knowledge is that it's primitive world with unknown animal or intelligent life. Consider it like the Alien Movies, where it takes years to get somewhere. So once your there, your on your own.

How many, and what types? Consider weight is a factor as you may have to lug your weapons and ammo around depending on the scenario.

What style of sword is this?

This is one of those uber cheap wall hanging swords, but I am curious what kind of real world sword it is based on as it's kind of unusual.

It has a leaf blade 26 inches long, with a grip that is 5 1/4 inches long not including the pommel. The grip is round, but the shape of the hand guard falls into the hand so you know how the blade is positioned. You can hold it one or two handed, but it seems strange on such a short blade.

I have looked for a sword of similar proportions that's not a wall hanging cheep-o like this one, but anything I've found has a one handed grip for a sword this short. Is this just a unique one off from Coyote Cutlery?

http://steelhaven.tripod.com/Devil-Wing_Sword_$55.... - Here is a newer straight bladed version in silver rather then gold color. I kind of like the leaf blade shape better though.

  • Has anybody ever heard of the ERA Firearms Company out of Brazil?

Sold a pump to a friend and went to my favorite store to find a used coach gun for a decent price. Nothing that was in good shape for a decent price until I stumbled on this bran new Shotgun.

It's a ERA 'Double SxS" Hammerless coach gun. I never heard of the company so I usually would just keep walking, but the wood grain in the stock spoke to me. I'm a total wood stock snob :/ I ended up getting it for the same price as a Jimentz JW-2000 Chinese shotgun after a bit of negotiations.

I can't find anything online with it, a couple websites showing it as an auction, but that's it. Anybody heard of them? Nice double trigger set up and very tight action.

  • Have you ever wanted a certain type of Firearm for a long time, then when you convinced yourself to buy one were disappointed?

    Pistol grip 12 gauge.

Bought a Maverick 88 over a 500 because I liked the trigger mounted safety for a pistol grip. Shot 3" Buck and Slugs out of it a few times for kicks, but that quickly got old. Bird shot was a hoot to shoot, but after a couple shells I would go back to a Stock Shotgun so I could hit something farther then 20 feet.

I wanted a Pistol grip for SO long, and once I got it I quickly grew tired of it. To me it made little sense, if you take a home defense 18.5" standard stocked shotgun and hold it like a pistol grip with the stock under your armpit it turns into pistol grip length.

I even bought a top folding stock for it in an attempt to renew my ♥ for it lol. Needless to say, I sold it to a friend who loved the tactical 'cool' factor.

  • JW-2000 Shotgun coach-gun locking up after shooting.?

Have had this JW-2000 double barrel replica coach gun for about 3 years now and have a minimum of a thousand shells through it including some 3" 00 buck. In the past the barrels would be sticky, but tightening a couple screws attaching it to the stock solved this.

This no longer works, and the screws are tight. Shooting bird shot I have to crack this thing open on my knee, and if I put a stout load through it forget about it. I have to crack it open against a piece of wood.

What can cause this? And yes I know it's basically the cheapest double barrel on the market made in China ;)

  • How many of you do your own firearm repairs?

I know a lot of AR and 1911 guys do modifications, but how many disassemble the weapons to replace broken or worn out internals?

Just finished getting a couple antique Remington 11-48 shotguns repaired to fully operational, and seeing these antiques functioning perfectly put a smile on my face.

The 1967 was bought functioning and after 1,000+ shells needed a new firing pin, easy fix.

The 1951 was bought non functioning as a cut down 21" barreled parts gun. Just wanted the barrel but decided to restore it. What a pain finding parts but what a joy having it working 100%

I think fixing it was more fun then shooting this 'recoil' operated boom stick.

  • Why does the Chevy 5.0L / 305ci V8 have such a bad rap?

In my area for decades the 5.0 V8 is considered junk compared to the 5.7 or even the 4.3 V6. Why is that?

I went to a Community College in 99 starting a ASE Training program, but it was all PC and no wrench turning so I decided on a different career path.

In that class my hatred for the 305 was instilled by the instructors and the other students, many nearly finished with the year long program.

I've owned a 95 GMC for 3 1/2 years now and was told it was a 5.7 when I bought it. Had a 5.7 sticker under the hood and everything. Bragged on it for years, but after a tune up I was told it's a 305! 200,000 miles and it has never burned a drop of oil and mechanically everything is stock short of tune ups. WTF I feel like a dumb @$$ now.

  • What is the best way to bond a plastic 'snap on sight' to a shotgun barrel?

Remington 11-48 RECOIL operated shotgun where the barrel slams back into the receiver to cycle the action.

Bought it as a parts gun with a cut down 21" barrel without a bead and decided to make it functional. Tried Gorilla Super Glue to hold it in place but that didn't work at all. Never tried to bond plastic to a blued metal surface before so any help would be appreciated.

  • Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter with last 3 digits of Serial # HAND engraved in cylinder? Is this normal?

Has anybody else seen this on their Ruger SAA Revolvers?

Had this gun on layaway for a while, the prize of my hand gun collection. But when I took the cylinder out it had the last 3 digits of the Serial Number HAND engraved in between 3 of the chambers.

When I mean hand engraved it looks like somebody drunk did it with a hand held electric engraving pencil! Which wouldn't bother me but the numbers are just sloppy and are so large you can see them even when it's in the weapon!

They are 1/8" tall with my measurement. I read Ruger does this with convertible models, and I am awaiting feedback from the Ruger Support Team. I can't believe this is standard practice on one of Ruger's most well known products.

  • Do you own a Firearm then when fired surprises even you with it's accuracy?

Like comparing a full size pistol to a different full sized pistol, but one's accuracy is dramatically different?

I've been shooting for 7 years now regularly, and I'm a decent shot for just a hobbyist. I would come in last in a competition if it was for hand guns ;)

My Taurus 845, poly full sized .45acp is not normal. My other full size pistols I'm lucky to come withing 2" of bulls eye at 7 yards with an occasional center hit. The Taurus I can eradicate the center of the target, why is that? It's all factory parts, nothing fancy and out shoots my S&W M&P's or even my GP-100 Revolver with the 6" barrel.

To be honest I"m afraid to shoot it to much, don't want to wear it out since it is a Taurus ;) And it's to much fun to hand it to a friend and watch them hit the bulls eye on the first couple shots!

  • What would be the ideal car for the Grim Reaper, or a Demonic being in general?

Picture this scene. Dark out, night time, your alone somewhere ( Pick your nightmare ) - Off in the distance you hear the approaching sounds of an old V8 rumbling. Then you feel a chill in the air, black smoke slowly fills the area, then lights from some kind of headlights finally come into view.

What vehicle just oozes this kind of horror scene? To me it's some kind of late 60's to early 70's huge black sedan. Maybe a Lincoln Mark series? What's your pick?

  • What caused small handgun calibers such as the .25 and the .32 to die off from popularity?

I realize all hand guns are underpowered, but the .25acp especially is just pitiful. Even so for many decades it was a very popular caliber of firearm.

I picked up a used Kel Tec P32 after selling a couple other RG hand me downs, and firing it was actually enjoyable. Much easier to handle then a .380 of similar weight.

What changed in the public's mind that .380 has become the smallest caliber most will use?

  • 3.8L 2004 Ford Mustang modifications.?

I have a 04 Mustang Convertible with the 3.8L V6 and automatic tranny. The car is in excellent shape and has only 49,000 miles on the motor. She's slow as snot though.

What is the best way to give this vehicle GT performance without selling the vehicle? It was an unexpected gift and very sentimental to me.

Was thinking of a Cold Air intake, high flow headers, and a true duel exhaust with high flow cat's. Does anybody have a link or first hand experience if this is worth the time and money thrown into it?

Had the car for 5 years now, been beat by to many Civics off the line lol.

  • Opinions on Kel Tec P32 in general.?

Owned one Kel Tec product, the P-11 double stack 9mm and quite frankly it was the second worst pistol I have ever owned. ( Phoenix Arms the worst, but that was only bought for the range not defense. )

Looking for a Semi Auto to basically replace the NAA Mini Magnum, and I'm more or less zeroing in on this or the NAA Guardians.

Is the newer P-32's really better then they used to be? Been reading a lot on them today and apparently the Frames and Slides have been beefed up and internals replaced to fix all the old issues? You Tube seems to love them for some reason.

    Thanks all.

What's a Firearm you own that brings back a strong memory? Use for hunting or other?

What firearm if you picked it up, look at it, or just generally think about it can trigger a powerful memory or a flood of memories? First hunting kill, gift from loved one, what ever moves you from it's sight and feel.

    Here's my story.

August inspired this question, in another question we were talking about the Raven MP-25. Brought it out of the safe for the first time in years to 'feel' the gun's weight and build. Soon as I un zipped it out of it's case I had a flood of memories.

When he first got the gun, he put a hole in the roof cleaning a 'empty' pistol. He did not do a chamber check. This is why I answer so many questions saying check check check the chamber!

19 years old, Hurricane Charlie decided to tear up the State. Afterwords with the power out my Grandfather's neighborhood had some iffy people. He woke up with a lady of the night in his house, wanting money! This tiny pistol glistening in the candle light sent her running out of his darkened house. ( Mind you he was 80 at the time ) Afterwords he gave me this to get it out of his house, it spooked him.

Finally, after he died less then a year later I received a package in the mail with my address but his name on it. He had ordered 2 spring kits and 4 magazines from some website that carried parts! I received this in the mail a few weeks after his passing.

So August thank you for bringing back some memories of my Grandfather. It may be junk, but it's mine for as long as I live.
