Hunting's section's dried up :( New Fantasy 'What weapon would you take for...' Fun question.?

I've seen a crud ton of Survival, SHTF, Zombie questions posted before. So I'm going to try and mix the same generic question up a little and turn it a bit sci-fi'ish.

If you were the Security Person of an expedition to an unknown alien world, what kind of weapons would you take? Your only knowledge is that it's primitive world with unknown animal or intelligent life. Consider it like the Alien Movies, where it takes years to get somewhere. So once your there, your on your own.

How many, and what types? Consider weight is a factor as you may have to lug your weapons and ammo around depending on the scenario.

Update:

UPDATE - Near Future Timeline, so currently realistic weapons.

Glock 17 in 9mm. Simple. Reliable. Parts are lightweight and easy to replace in the field. 9mm is a light weight-per-shot round, with enough smack to handle our own personnel, no way to tell how effective it would be but then again, we don't know enough to know if anything would be effective, so any caliber would be better than none.

It's a platform I'm familiar with, can repair, and have a shipton of experience working it it, and I'd be able to bring a lot of ammo for it.

Another option would be a .357 Mag double action revolver, which would be better when it works.

Hmmm. So I'd probably start with a Benelli M3 with an extender tube. Semi auto and pump it's tough as it gets.

Then a sidearm, considering I don't know what's there a military one, I'm not partial to Glocks that much, even though the weight is nice, probably a CZ-SP01 because I know how to shoot it and fix it if it breaks.

Something to reach out with, so an accurate mag fed bolt gun in .300 Win Mag or .338 Win Mag.

Some kind of patrol rifle. So if I'm going somewhere truly alien ... .223 isn't what I'm thinking. Maybe a 16" barrel AR-10.

Finally, in case I need a predator caliber, then probably a .223. Possible an accurate AR style.

Plus I'm going to bring plenty of reloading gear, which is why no rim fire.

Because I'm paranoid there is a part of me that would swap the CZ pistol for an STI perfect 10 or a Glock 20 and have an H&K MP in 10 mm or an Olympic Arms carbine in 10 mm with open sights.

Wow, everyone is so fun here.

Anyways... I would take a revolver or bolt action. Not knowing what type of gravity and all that other stuff bringing a semi auto might not be the best idea.

And either the alien life on the other planet is going ot be so strong that you need high caliber rifle rounds to kill it, or it's going to be weaker and little .22s can do the job. I guess I would actually go with a Ruger .308 bolt action all weather rifle. And a .22 single 6 so I can stock and hoard up on .22 rounds. That way if life is weak, all I would need is a .22. If not, then I've got a giant .308 round.

Assuming I'd have access to military firearms, I'd take plenty of M-16's, 1911a1's, some bolt action rifles like .30-06 & .375 H&H, 12 gauge shotguns, .22 long rifle, hand grenades, LPG's, explosives, night vision goggles, HK MP5's, Predator SRAW's, lots of ammunition, and maybe a Sherman Tank for good measure. I'd take an armored vehicle so I would not have to lug it all around.

Take a Glock. 9 or 40 doesn't matter. Take all of the rounds you can, as there will be no more. Now get a Henry AR7 and thousands of rounds which will last forever. Small but mighty.

A good 'ol pump 12. That is if they let me bring it on the space ship. If I'm going somewhere and there's things that I've never seen before and want to kill me, I want something that can stop a bear. I'll copy LGM and bring a wheel gun too.

I would bring something like the M25 (scoped M14) and a basic combat load of ammo since it gives you both the capabilities of a battle rifle and a hunting rifle in a proven reliable package. The .308 is a full-sized round in case there are animals similar to bears and stuff.

Benelli M4 12 Gauge shotgun. If a few shots from it won;t stop whatever alien lifeform I'm aiming at we've probably landed on the wrong planet.

(Yahoo has really screwed up this section this morning! And sure, fun questions have their fringe applications in the present.) OKAY, for very short range where accuracy isn't important, on 44 or 45 Cal you can drill out a sizeable hollow cavity, like the old Simbionese Liberation Army (SLA) did, and put some kind of poison or explosive in it, legal for off-world ONLY! (I hope my not being more specific will limit me being investigated.)

I could only wish a Zombie would try to get me in the winter.

I would put on a pair of ice skates and go into the middle of an ice skating rink and tease the Zombies

as they tried to make their way out onto the ice.

I'ld probably have to make a video and put it on You Tube

. Maybe make a futuristic game show, called Zombies On Ice
