Alcohol without any sugar or calories?

Why doesn't someone invent this?

Wouldn't they become an instant billionaire overnight?

I would love to even drink calorie free beer.

Update:

I will ask in engineering since they know about chemistry.

This question is faulty at its core. Any alcohol that released zero calories when you consumed it would by definition have to not be metabolized by the body. If it's not metabolized, it wouldn't have the effect alcohol generally has on the body (depressant--lowers inhibitions, CNS activity, etc), so what would be the point of drinking it?

If you invented such a substance, then it would not be alcohol but rather something else, and it would be categorized as a drug because of its designed effect. There are already many drugs on the market that have similar effects to alcohol but with almost no calories, Amitriptyline for one. Sales of such drugs are WELL into the billions of dollars per year.

A good idea, but about 15 giant corporations already beat you to it.

Fermentation occurs when trillions of bacteria are placed in a sugar solution, they eat the sugar and reconfigure the hydrocarbons into alcohol, and poop out the alcohol. When you consume the alcohol, your body converts it BACK into sugar.

Good luck finding another billion dollar idea. This ain't it.
