Scrap my Old 32 bit computer to build 64 bit system. I am thinking about building a new computer utilizing parts from my existing one.?

I know I need

-64 bit CPU

-New mother board

-New RAM

can I use my old parts

-dvd / HD DVD / Blu-ray optical drive

-Old HDD drives. I have two 500GB in which one has only been used for Music and Video Storage.

-Digital TV tuner

-upgraded video card (NVIDIA® GeForce® 7600 GT )

-upgraded power supply (400w)

Update:

I forgot I also need 64 bit windows 7... any idea when 9 is due to ship?

Almost all of the new motherboards are SATA only. If your old drives are SATA, they should all be compatible.

Digital TV tuner? No way for me to know because there's not enough information concerning its interface. I'd say if the board has an interface that works with it, and you have the drivers for it, it should work.

Video card: If your old card is a PCI-e card, it should work on the new board. Be sure and download the newest drivers from NVIDIA.

A 400 watt power supply is plenty an an Intel build. For an AMD build, I'd go at least 550 watts.

    DVD--sure.

old HDD---iffy, they may work, but age does wear out HDDs.

    Digital TV Tuner---fine.

videocard---yours is so crappy, while it could work, it's not worth using.

powersupply---depends on the age and the model. PSUs do wear out, and there have been some changes. Best not to risk it.

Windows 9 will be out within the year.
