"Gel cells" are Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries, more properly called Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries. The difference is in another form of SLA/VRLA battery, the Absorbed Glass Mat battery. AGM batteries are generally deep cycle and would be a lot better in the mobility scooter. Since the chemistry is virtually the same as a standard VRLA battery the same charger can be used.
