British influence in Southern Italy?

Today I am investigating the relationship between Britain and southern Italy (Naples etc.). It appears there has been quite alot of British involvement in the area....so far I have established a timeline as below..are there any basics I should know, have missed out or is there anything interesting you would like to add to my knowledge?

1708 British assist Habsburgs conquer Sardinia

1793 Britain protects Sardinia.

1798 Britain evacuates Ferdinand to Sicily.

1799 Britain ends Parthanopean republic

1804 Britain uses Sardinia as a naval base.

1805 Anglo Russian invasion of Naples ends in failure despite returning only to withdraw again.

1806 Britain occupies Sicily until 1815.

1860 British fleet protects and mediates risorgimento in Sicily.

    Lord Nelson and his troops have settled for a while in Northern Sardinia...and they brought there many British traditions as the Scottis, a Scottish dance which is now considered a traditional Sardinian dancing.

    1940 Britain attacks the Italian Fleet anchored at Taranto.

    They sunk one battleship and heavily damaged two more. It was the first ship to ship aircraft attack in history. The Japanese studied the 'Battle of Taranto' when they were planning their attack on Pearl Harbor.
