  • washing machine plumbing question ?

I want to put a washing machine into a room where the previous owners had a small toilet (no longer there) there are water feeds obviously from the previous sink but only a large waste pipe that the toilet pan would have connected to. Is there an adapter I can buy that will increase the washing machine waste pipe spigot size to the toilet outlet and are there any potential issues? Thanks

  • Junction Street East Ham?

I have some info on an ancestor who lived on a Junction street in East London. I have found pictures suggesting that junction street is the area where barking road crosses with high street north and high street south East Ham. I can't find former reference to them as junction street that isn't ambiguous.

  • Sudeten land question?

How was Chamberlain able to grant Hitler the Sudenten land and declare peace in our time? Is it purely due to the strength of the British that they were simply able to dictate to the Czechs....this bit of your country is no longer going to be part of your country?

  • Re employment after ill health?

I worked in insurance for 14 years and then became ill. I have not worked for the last 4 years but am now well again. I am bursting with enthusiasm to reinstate myself in the financial sector to make up for lost time but i am now 38. I am looking to try something slightly different as i am getting nowhere when i apply in insurance. It would have to be financial because that's the only thing I have ever done. I also want to go back in at minimum £30K. I have always wanted to be a trader/stockbroker/IB but these may be too taxing as I'm probably too old now. The pain is the caveat that i need good sleep each night to stay well.

So the question is...what can i try entry level finance that pays well that allows me to sleep....impossible eh?

  • Are there any other cities that you know of..?

That were created/set up or developed due to the investment of Britain, its empire or British business OUTSIDE of the British empire?

An example of the type of thing I am questioning about is Donetsk in the Ukraine. Very much in the news of late...it was created to a certain degree by John Hughes a British businessman and here is a funny poll the inhabitants undertook due to the recent issues there...

    http://www.themoscowtimes.com/article/496705.html

now I understand that foreign direct investment outside of the empire was very significant in places like Argentina, China and Siam...a form of informal empire so I am limiting the question to specific examples as per Donetsk not broad international investment.

    Interesting looking.

  • Francis Drakes New Albion?

In 1579 Drake landed at point reyes in marin county California. He claimed all lands above the existing New Spain at that time. Is there anywhere I can find a map of New Spain at that time, prior to further acquisitions by Spain showing the extent to modern North America he was laying claim to. I can find a map by Ortellius but it is obviously old and out of shape. Does New Spain extend above the 38° parallel at that time at all?

  • Treaty of Sevres?

Ignoring Sykes-Picot why did Britain not take direct or nominal control of a larger slice of asia minor (modern Turkey) as allocated to Greece, Italy, France etc as the foremost power. I am aware that British troops were present in Constantinople, Samsun, Alexandretta and Izmit but only took control of a small swathe of "kurdistan" above the iraq mandate?

  • Rio de Janeiro as a British naval base.?

I see from Lawrence James history of the british empire that Rio de Janeiro is shown as a british naval base on the map of 1850. Do you know anything about this? From what I can find it appears it may have been due to the escape of the king of Portugal with the British navy that resulted in this agreement but information is limited to that. Do you know anything more about this?
